The findings of The Boston Consulting Group India (BCG) states that over the past three years IT-enabled SMEs grew their revenues 20 percentage points faster and cloud services are playing a key role in SME growth. Meetul Patel, General Manager – SMS&P, Microsoft India, said, ” Today, the availability of services delivered through pay-as-you-use cloud computing is enabling SMEs to substantially reduce upfront investments in server and networking infrastructure.”

Governments could lose more than $50 billion in dealing with costs associated with malware on pirated software, shows a study by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and research firm IDC. The study, titled ‘The Link between Pirated Software and Cyber security Breaches’, expressed concern over the potential impact of cyber security threats on nations. David Finn, Executive Director and Associate General Counsel, Microsoft Cybercrime Centre, said, “Cyber criminals are profiting from any security lapse they can find, with financially devastating results for everyone.”

Meghashyam Karanam, lead product marketing manager, Microsoft India stated that State Governments, banking and financial sector, and organized, small and medium-scale retail businesses are among the largest users of computers in local languages. He is further quoted as saying that Microsoft India is conducting several programs to create awareness among the public on the possibilities of using the computer and internet in their local language.

The Hindu: Microsoft contest finalists to tour Seattle

The finalists of the ‘Microsoft Zonal Imagine Boot Camp’ at the national-level will be taken to Seattle in Washington on a seven-day tour which will be sponsored by Microsoft. Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi, Head of the Microsoft’s academic student initiatives, said, “Over 400 students from the southern States are going to participate in the two-day event and the teams that are selected here will be sent to the nationals to be held in Delhi from April 29.”

The Economic Times: Microsoft offers Windows phone OS free to Indian players

With Windows Phone failing to make a significant dent in the market share of Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS in the last four years, Microsoft is waiving the license fee and offering it to at least two Indian phone makers for free. Last month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Microsoft announced that more phone makers, including two from India — Lava and Karbonn will produce Windows Phone devices in the coming months.

Viral Oza, Director (Marketing), Nokia India said, “The affordable smartphone segment which was 16 million units in 2012 grew to 44 million units in 2014. This market has been growing faster. Nokia addressed it through Asha and Lumia range of phones.”
