Zepto Limited launches UmiTab 10.1 2-in-1 Tablet Computer in Ghana

High end device brings top Microsoft productivity software to Ghanaians at a low price point

Accra, Ghana, 23 March 2016 – Today, Zepto Limited, a wholly Ghanaian  company, launched the new Zepto UmiTab 10.1 2-in-1 Tablet Computer in Ghana at an event held at the British Council in Accra.

The UmiTab 10.1, retailing for 999 Ghc, comes with an erganomic keyboard, on-board 3G data access, and the full Microsoft productivity offering – Windows 10, Office 365 Mobile, and free 1 TB OneDrive access for one year. Its long battery life and versatile tablet PC form factor make it an attractive option for those looking for an affordable device that provides the full function of a laptop, with the convenience of a tablet.

Says Charles Ofori, CEO of Zepto Limited, “We’re excited about what we are offering Ghanaians today. Not only does the UmiTab 10.1 offer quality at a low price, but it provides Microsoft’s familiar, fast and secure software, while our teams across the country will ensure that customers get the technical support and customer service they deserve long after they have purchased the device”.

Since its global launch in July 2015, more than 200 million monthly active devices around the world are running Windows 10.  It is the most secure Windows ever, kept automatically up-to-date with innovations and security updates. “The enhanced security features are a real benefit for those using genuine software,” says Mark Pritchard, Consumer Channels Group Lead for Microsoft in West and Central Africa. “Customers get built-in, enterprise-grade security enabling them to replace passwords with more secure options, protect their data and identities, and run only the software they trust.”

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) one in every three people who use illegal software will likely encounter malware, which can result in loss of important data, identity theft, bank account theft, and a damaged device. The cost of dealing with malware and cyber-attacks across businesses in the Middle East and Africa is US$8 billion, according to IDC.

Zepto Limited, who built the first technology production plant in Ghana in 2010, will also be donating 10 UmiTab 10.1 Tablet PCs to the British Council’s Skills Hub project, extending its commitment to training and skills development in Ghana. The devices will contribute to the goal of the British Council and The Rockefeller Foundation to train 1 000 high potential, disadvantaged youth in 2016/2017 to give them skills to start a career in digital industries. This forms part of the British Council’s larger aim to ensure that young people in Ghana have the right skills to meet their employment or entrepreneurial aspirations.
