The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to collaborate with Microsoft for National Heritage & Tourism Sectors’ Innovation

Muscat, Oman, 25 May 2023 – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Oman and Microsoft have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to accelerate digital transformation in the national heritage and tourism sectors.

This comes as part of the Ministry’s mission to promote the heritage and tourism sectors by applying best practices and to increase the competitiveness of tourism destinations and experiences at the local, regional and international levels.

To ink the partnership, a memorandum of understanding was signed during COMEX 2023, Oman’s biggest tech show, by Mr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Hajari, Director of Administration and Finance in the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism and Sheikh Saif Hilal Al Hosni, Country Manager, Microsoft Oman and Bahrain.

The MoU defines the scope of cooperation between the two parties, which aims to accelerate the Ministry’s digital transformation journey through the adoption of Microsoft cloud-enabled solutions with objectives to increase employees’ productivity and drive innovation. The MoU also covers the skilling and upskilling of the Ministry’s workforce to stay relevant in the digital era and sustain their digital transformation agendas.

Commenting on this new collaboration, Mr. Abdullah bin Salem Al Hajari, Director of Administration and Finance in the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, said, “We are pleased to expand our partnership with Microsoft to leverage their cutting-edge technology to enhance our digital operations, empower our employees, deliver exceptional experiences and services while contributing to the Sultanate’s digital transformation efforts in line with Oman Vision 2040.”

For his part, Sheikh Saif Hilal Al Hosni, Country Manager, Microsoft Oman and Bahrain, commended the efforts of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to accelerate its digital transformation and build its workforce capabilities, reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting its journey. He said, “We will dedicate our expertise and advanced technological solutions to help the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism achieve its mission to advance innovation, improve the lives of citizens and contribute to a diversified and sustainable economy in line with Oman Vision 2040.”

Microsoft specialists will work with the MHT’s stakeholders to determine the Microsoft technologies best suited to its digital transformation needs.
