Mexico City, Mexico – Microsoft and Coca–Cola FEMSA, leading bottler and marketer of drinks, have created a strategic alliance to migrate to digital tools, allowing the Mexican company to optimize its communication processes with a platform that will provide operational support through videoconferencing as well as collaborative, simultaneous work.

Since 2018, Coca-Cola FEMSA has carried out its digital transformation and evolution through various initiatives; one objective has been to connect employees throughout the company’s 10 countries of operation.

To achieve this, the company implemented Microsoft 365, a complete solution that includes Microsoft Teams and allows users to work anytime and anywhere; to communicate through videoconference; to share documents and work in real time and with total security; to access email, calendars and contacts from any device; and offers remote collaboration and company information monitoring alternatives with robust security and privacy controls.

Coca-Cola FEMSA employees adopted Microsoft Teams at the beginning of 2020, allowing them to maintain business continuity and improve communication between teams, partners and individuals outside of the organization.

According to Jorge Luis García, Coca-Cola FEMSA’s Director of Technology, video calls have been one of the most-used tools in recent months: “There are now over 200,000 interactions between more than 19,200 partners being carried out, which has also improved the operational work structure of the teams thanks to channels and chats available in the application.”

For Coca-Cola FEMSA’s technology department, this transition needed to be fast and structured, ensuring that transition to the new remote collaboration model within the organization was transparent. In partnership with other areas and with the help of Microsoft and DXC (a technology company offering IT services), the department was able to successfully implement and train the entire team remotely so that each person was ready for the change. Arturo Juárez, Head of IT Service Delivery for Coca-Cola FEMSA, affirms that tools such as Microsoft Teams “have ensured that the business doesn’t experience interruptions during collaboration and that interactions are more agile”.

This remote collaboration framework is here to stay as a routine in the new normal, and it has been evolving within the Company as needs arise. An example of this came in the form of the “Development Week” global event, conducted in a completely virtual format with an eye to building new skills within the organization and to providing a space that would motivate and incentivize personal development. Well-known speakers from different countries attended.

Microsoft Teams was a key ally in successfully carrying out the event, with simultaneous participation from 10 countries and over 15,000 connections throughout the entire week. The event concluded with positive results and feedback, as well as strong approval from attendees.

Migrating the processes of a company the size of Coca-Cola FEMSA to digital channels is a challenge, but by working together with the right allies and renewed processes, the company has enjoyed the benefits of staying in touch no matter the physical location of each employee.

The digital transformation of companies has become even more relevant due to the need to work from home and has even had to accelerate to guarantee operational continuity for organizations. The search for flexible technological allies capable of adapting—not only to the processes based on each company’s line of business, but also to the needs of each person who is part of it—is now the key to maintaining administrative operational continuity. The sudden change experienced with the pandemic brought the real needs of integrating technology tools to the surface and tested the ability of companies to adjust, revitalize and transcend.
