Ministry of the Presidency and Microsoft sign collaboration agreement to improve protection and defense against cyberthreats

Dominican Republic will be the first Caribbean country to join Microsoft’s Government Security Program

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The Ministry of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic and Microsoft Corporation will collaborate to improve protection and defense against cyber threats for the benefit of the country’s organizations and citizens. As of December 2021, the Dominican Republic will be the first country in the Caribbean, and the only active country in Latin America, to be part of the Microsoft’s Government Security Program (PSGM), which provides access to Microsoft technology.

The overall purpose of this program is to help governments protect themselves and their citizens by enabling greater trust and transparency through access to security information about Microsoft products and services, data to improve the protection of government information technology against cyber threats, and to foster collaboration between Microsoft security teams and government cybersecurity experts.

The agreement signed with the Government of the Dominican Republic includes the opportunity to visit a secure facility to perform in-depth levels of inspection and analysis at any of the five Microsoft Transparency Centers located in the United States, Belgium, Singapore, Brazil, and China. It also includes the exchange of data on threats and vulnerabilities by establishing a communication channel with Microsoft’s security and response teams.

«We are pleased to be formalizing an agreement of this nature; this level of connection adds much value to our management and that of the President of the Republic, particularly in my case, as a member of the digital transformation cabinet which is headed by the president. This agreement represents the importance we have given to everything related to the digital transformation of the State,» says Lisandro Macarrulla.

«By providing governments with information and exclusive access to Microsoft products, services and technologies, our goal is to increase trust and share our expertise so that we can improve protection and defense against cyber threats targeting the IT infrastructure, the national economy and the citizens of the Dominican Republic,” says Herbert Lewy, general manager of Microsoft Caribbean.

Participants of the Microsoft’s Government Security Program (PSGM) have included more than 45 countries and international organizations represented by more than 90 agencies since its inception in 2003.
