Sinar Mas Land Pioneers Smart City Concept in Indonesia with Microsoft

Tangerang, Indonesia, September 12th 2019 – Microsoft and Sinar Mas Land signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today to explore collaboration opportunities on transforming BSD into Indonesia’s first large scale resilient and innovative smart city that is inclusive and accessible for all citizens.

On a foundation of digital technologies like cloud, artificial intelligence, internet of things and data driven decision making, Sinar Mas Land aims to create a future ready city with smart residences, connected workplaces and entrepreneurial Digital Hub in addition to citizen services and public infrastructure. Therefore, Sinar Mas Land invites Microsoft to enable this digital ecosystem initiatives.

As a part of this agreement, Microsoft will also offer opportunities for their partners to co-create with Sinar Mas Land and develop solutions based on their different areas of expertise. Sinar Mas Land welcomes Microsoft’s endeavours as they are making the BSD digitally accessible and engaging for residents and visitors.

Microsoft and Sinar Mas Group have an established relationship, having partnered on digital transformation for its company and all of its business pillars. Prior to this collaboration, Sinar Mas Land has started to transform its biggest township BSD into the first integrated smart digital city. Sinar Mas Land also developed Digital Hub within BSD area. The Digital Hub is an area of 26-hectare which is dedicated to startups, communities, educational institutions and also multinational companies focusing on digital and technology industries. Along with its development, the Digital Hub has become home for innovation development of several global companies.

Embarking the digital era, Indonesia has acknowledged digital economy framework in order to compete globally. Designing Industrial Revolution 4.0 road map, President Joko Widodo administration has long highlighted the importance of technological advancement embedded on industries to fully servicing society. In terms of smart city, President Joko Widodo has encouraged the use of technology to realize more effective, transparent and reliable governance. Realizing Indonesia potential growth at a global level, the conversation on smart city is also addressed during ASEAN 32 Summit as ASEAN countries are dynamic and competitive when it comes to new technological innovation. This collaboration expresses commitment of both Sinar Mas Land and Microsoft Indonesia to support President Joko Widodo’s visions of smart city and digital economy.
