COLOMBO, Sri Lanka – February 08, 2023 – Responding to a current medicine shortage in the country, Microsoft donated essential medicine worth USD 23,700 to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) recently. The donation was handed over by Harsha Randeny, country manager for Microsoft Sri Lanka and Maldives, to Dr. A.T. Sudarshana, deputy director of Medical Supplies Division at the Ministry of Health, in the presence of health ministry and SLRCS officials.
The funds were raised through contributions from Microsoft employees in the Asia Pacific region, echoing the culture of giving that is fostered within Microsoft. The donation was directed through Elixir, Sri Lanka’s first ever medical donation matching platform launched by SLRCS.
The Elixir platform, hosted on Microsoft Azure, is designed to coordinate responses to meet the medical needs of hospitals in Sri Lanka and was implemented with the support of donations from global entities including Microsoft.
