Microsoft today welcomed BINUS University (BINUS), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and Telkom University (TelU) to the elevAIte Indonesia partner ecosystem, with more university partners are expected to join in the coming months. elevAIte Indonesia is an AI skilling initiative by Kemkomdigi and Microsoft to help skill 1 million Indonesian talents with relevant skills in the era of digital transformation, which was launched in early December 2024.

The onboarding of BINUS, UB, UGM, and TelU to elevAIte Indonesia is expected to reach at least 400,000 educators and students across Indonesia’s provinces through a series of programs such as training of trainers, Microsoft AI certification exams, AI Hackathon focusing on solving daily life problems using AI technology, and incubation of the AI Hackathon winners’ program. Universities across Indonesia can join as elevAIte Indonesia partners through elevaite.id/education.

Microsoft Philanthropies Social Impact Lead, Somanna Palacanda in his visit to Indonesia said, “Today, AI is transforming every industry, opening new opportunities for economic growth and new jobs in every sector from technology to healthcare, education, public services and more; and we are just at the beginning of this growth. Globally, the skills needed for jobs are projected to change by 50% from 2016 to 2030—and generative AI is expected to accelerate this change to 68%1. Those who learn AI skills, therefore, will be best positioned to benefit from the new AI economy.”

As part of elevAIte Indonesia, the AI Center of Universitas Brawijaya, which was inaugurated in early January 2025, will also be used as a Certiport Authorized Testing Center (CATC). CATC is an official exam center recognized by Certiport to administer leading certification exams such as the official certification of Microsoft Office Specialist, Microsoft Technology Associate, and many more.

Certifications awarded by Microsoft, based on industry-defined roles, are becoming increasingly valuable as they demonstrate proficiency in specific, real-world skills for recognized industry roles. These certifications also help to verify that an individual knows how to apply technical knowledge to solve today’s business challenges, and help the individual to keep up with industry changes because the training is always being updated and new certifications are being added all the time.

Additionally, UGM will continue to develop and adopt responsible AI in education as a continuation of memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Microsoft in 2024. Meanwhile, BINUS will implement the elevAIte initiative by integrating AI materials into its curriculum and expanding its learning ecosystem through BINUS’s edutech platform, GreatNusa, which serves as a provider of upskilling and reskilling bootcamps. This collaboration will further strengthen the commitment to building an innovative and inclusive learning ecosystem.

Nurturing AI Talents for Golden Indonesia 2045

According to Microsoft and LinkedIn’s most recent Work Trend Index, the use of generative AI has nearly doubled from late 2023 to early 2024, with 75% of global knowledge workers2 using it. In Indonesia, the number is even higher, with 92% of Indonesia knowledge workers already use generative AI at work. This suggests the huge opportunity for Indonesia to play a critical role in global AI innovation.

“People are quickly adopting AI, but they need help adapting to the new landscape of AI at work. They also need reassurance that their skill set will keep up with demands for new jobs now and in the future. Looking at the huge opportunity and talent pools in Indonesia, Microsoft is excited to work closely with Kemkomdigi to deliver AI skills at scale through elevAIte. In this initiative, we are building partnership across public and private sectors as we continue to build a global ecosystem that supports sustainable, long-term skilling efforts; ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in an AI-driven world, and supporting Indonesia to realize Indonesia Emas 2045 vision. Our biggest appreciation to all partners involved in this initiative,” Somanna continued.

Within the two months since its launch, a total of 14 partners have joined elevAIte Indonesia initiative, with ongoing programs being attended by more than 100,000 individuals from various regions in Indonesia. Previously, BPPMP South Sulawesi, Biji-biji Initiative, BINAR, Dicoding, GenDigital Academy, Lembaga Administrasi Negara (LAN), NUCare Global by LAZISNU, Pijar Foundation, and Plan Indonesia had also joined elevAIte Indonesia; targeting training for various groups. Starting from individuals, communities, industry players, to the government.

AI Skills Navigator, a free learning platform that brings together all learning content from Microsoft Learn and LinkedIn Learning, is now also accessible in Indonesian language through aka.ms/aiskillsnavigatorid. Equipped with AI assistants, this platform can make it easier for individuals to find AI learning materials that suit their goals, interests, and learning styles.
