Empowering STEM teachers to co-create, save time, and build more responsible AI use in future-ready classrooms

At Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Phitsanulok, Mr. Potisak Potisen (Teacher Ball), a chemistry teacher, and Mr. Pisit Saita (Teacher Ton), a biology teacher, developed a co-creation model using Microsoft Copilot and AI tools to make complex science concepts easier for students to understand. In the process, they reduced media production time by 70–80%, transformed a multi-week workflow into a process measured in hours, and helped students shift from using AI as a shortcut to using it as a responsible thinking partner.
Their journey began with a challenge familiar to many educators. Students were expected to master advanced scientific concepts that were broader and more abstract than standard curricula—yet teaching time remained the same. The issue was not subject knowledge, but the time and effort required to transform complex content into engaging learning materials. Creating high-quality visuals, animations, and supporting media demanded skills and time far beyond typical classroom responsibilities.
Driven by a shared commitment to preparing students for an AI-enabled future, Teacher Ball and Teacher Ton joined the ‘AI for Teachers’ initiative, part of Microsoft Elevate. They emerged as the winning team among 41 educator teams participating in the ‘AI for Teachers’ hackathon, reflecting both the program scale and their hard work. Through this experience, teachers are better equipped to prepare students not only in subject knowledge, but also in AI literacy and responsible use.
Through the program, they explored how Microsoft Copilot could fit into a day-to-day teaching workflow and developed a structured co-creation model. As they describe it, Copilot became a “virtual meeting room,” where they could bring ideas and have AI help analyze and refine them in real time. In this process, Teacher Ball led the storyline, concept development, and AI-generated visuals, while Teacher Ton ensured scientific accuracy, reviewed the content in detail, and completed the edits.
One of the strongest examples of this model was a project on “Reflex Action.” With support from Copilot and other AI tools, the team transformed a complex biology concept into a vivid, engaging learning experience. The project combined scientifically accurate visual storytelling with original, royalty-free music tailored to student preferences, so the lesson would feel more natural, memorable, and enjoyable. That choice mattered. When assessment time came, students scored above 80 percent on the topic, showing that the content had not only captured their attention but stayed with them. Their experience reflects a broader pattern from the program, with 76.3% of educators* noting significant changes in student engagement and creativity after integrating AI into teaching and learning.
The operational value of this workflow was immediate. Tasks that once took weeks of media production could now be completed in just a few hours, delivering a 70–80% reduction in production time. But for the teachers, the significance of that gain went beyond efficiency. The time returned through Copilot-enabled content creation gave them more room to focus on students: more time to refine lessons, more energy to observe student responses, and more opportunity to provide one-on-one support when needed. Teacher Ton noted that AI reduced the burden of document and creative design work, allowing him to focus more closely on individual student needs. Teacher Ball described the benefit even more simply: the real gain was having enough time left to walk toward a student, ask questions, and explain again.
Just as important, the project changed how students themselves thought about AI. One of the clearest outcomes was not only better engagement with science content, but a more responsible relationship with AI tools. By showing students the full workflow behind their award-winning project, from prompting and brainstorming to checking, revising, and validating AI-generated output, the two teachers demonstrated that AI is not something to copy from blindly, but something to work with thoughtfully.
The impact extended beyond their classroom: 94.8% of educators* reported that students were using AI more responsibly and safely. Teacher Ball saw the change in a student who once copied and pasted AI-generated answers without understanding them. After learning what responsible Copilot use involves—brainstorming, verifying, revising, and validating outputs, the student shifted his habits. He began using AI to spark ideas and clarify difficult concepts, then completed the final work himself. The work improved, and he gained confidence because he could explain it and take ownership of it.
At the center of this model is a clear message: AI does not replace educators; it helps bridge technical gaps so teachers can return to their most essential role. Teacher Ball believes that no technology can replace the warmth, reassurance, and encouragement that students receive from a real teacher. Teacher Ton’s message to fellow educators is similarly direct: do not let fear of AI reduce your potential—be willing to learn, experiment, and use new tools in ways that better serve students. Together, their experience shows that Microsoft Copilot and AI should not make teachers smaller; they should give teachers more room to do what only teachers can do.
Teacher Ball and Teacher Ton’s achievement as AI for Teachers Award Champions reminds us that when AI and teachers’ hearts walk the same path, every classroom becomes a place where creativity, possibility, and the future shine. They showed how Microsoft Copilot can help teachers move faster through technical barriers and return more fully to what matters most: helping students understand, think critically, and learn with confidence. Their work offers a practical model for how AI can strengthen both teaching effectiveness and responsible student use of technology.

This future-ready classroom example also reflects Thailand’s national priority. As Mr. Pitak Sotthayakhom, Acting Advisor on Special Education and the Disadvantaged, Office of the Basic Education Commission, Representative of the Minister of Education stated, “The Ministry of Education recognizes the pivotal role of AI in transforming learning and developing essential skills for the nation’s future. The ‘AI for Teachers’ initiative aligns with the Ministry’s policy to consistently enhance the AI literacy and capabilities of Thai educators, ensuring that all students receive equitable and comprehensive opportunities to gain experience and develop necessary skills. Such collaborations between the public and private sectors are crucial mechanisms that propel Thai education forward and foster a sustainable learning society.”
