In today’s rapidly advancing technological landscape, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is progressing at extraordinary speed, introducing digital challenges that impact communities worldwide. Microsoft continues to reinforce its commitment to Responsible AI with the release of the 2026 Responsible AI Transparency Report. The report highlights five key trends that shaped the global AI environment over the past year: 1) AI diffusion is accelerating even as geographic and linguistic gaps widen; 2) Generative and agentic AI capabilities are expanding with greater persistence and autonomy; 3) Exposure to AI misuse including online fraud, scams, and deepfakes; 4) Chatbot adoption for personal support and health-related guidance is growing; and 5) AI regulation is evolving rapidly across jurisdictions worldwide.

The report underscores a widening “technology divide” across language readiness, access, and usage risks. In response, this presents a vital opportunity for stakeholders across sectors to advance adaptive governance, strengthen safeguards across the entire AI lifecycle, and deliver practical, accessible tools that foster trust and bridge digital divides, ensuring the benefits of AI are realized broadly and safely across society.
Furthermore, Microsoft reinforces the foundational principle that any pursuit of advanced AI must be grounded in benefiting humanity and remaining firmly under human control. Expanding the opportunities and benefits of AI to countries, communities, and organizations worldwide requires a vibrant and open frontier ecosystem where both open-source and proprietary (closed) models can thrive alongside each other.
For enterprises, Microsoft emphasizes that organizations must retain full control over their unique, proprietary, and tacit knowledge. Every organization should be empowered to build its own continuous learning loop on its own data without becoming locked into any single model provider, while maintaining the ability to embed institutional knowledge into models and systems they control. Microsoft also champions broad collaboration across industry, government, academia, and civil society to advance AI alignment and robust evaluation mechanisms, ensuring the future of AI reflects diverse voices and needs across the entire global ecosystem.
AI That Speaks Regional Languages and Understands Local Context

Building digital inclusion begins with breaking language barriers. AI delivers its true value only when it accurately understands local languages and cultural nuances beyond Western English.
To advance regional digital inclusion, Microsoft has partnered with leading organizations across Southeast Asia and globally. This includes signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to collaborate on research regarding AI safety across Southeast Asian languages. Microsoft is also co-chairing an MLCommons AILuminate working group to expand multilingual and multicultural safety benchmarks across diverse Asian contexts. These initiatives establish a crucial foundation to enhance AI accuracy, safety, and equitable access for local users across the region.
Combating AI-Enabled Scams, Fraud, and Deepfakes
The malicious use of AI to scale online fraud, impersonation, scams, and synthetic media (deepfakes) represents an urgent societal challenge. Microsoft implements a multi-layered defense strategy to protect users and strengthen ecosystem resilience:
- Content Provenance and Transparency: Pairing digital watermarking with the open C2PA (Content Credentials) standard creates verifiable records of content origin and edit history, helping users determine whether media has been AI-generated or modified as part of a multi-layered defense.
- Empowering Vulnerable Populations: Collaborating with civil society organizations, such as the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and Older Adults Technology Services (OATS), to deliver fraud-prevention guides and dedicated learning hubs that equip older adults with practical knowledge to identify and avoid AI-enabled scams.
Protecting Youth, Empowering the Workforce, and Enhancing Governance
Responsible AI deployment must address human psychology, wellbeing, and workforce capability:
- Safeguarding Youth and Emotional Wellbeing: Microsoft enforces a Sensitive Interactions Policy designed to prevent anthropomorphic behavior in AI systems, establishing clear boundaries to protect children and adolescents from emotional entanglement or overreliance, complemented by Microsoft Family Safety parental controls.
- Augmenting Human Cognition and Critical Thinking: Microsoft Research shows that relying on AI can lead to a perceived reduction in critical thinking. In response, Microsoft designs AI to augment human cognition supporting reflection, creativity, and informed decision-making rather than replacing human thought processes. This is supported by the Microsoft Elevate initiative, which aims to upskill 20 million people globally by 2030.
Vasupol Thangkakan, Chief Technology Officer, Microsoft Thailand, stated: “We are witnessing growing momentum and proactive engagement around Responsible AI governance across Thai enterprises. Organizations are increasingly investing in robust AI frameworks to maximize operational efficiency while managing risks and fostering user trust. This begins with a clear AI strategy, comprehensive workforce upskilling, and enterprise-grade system observability, a fundamental capability that provides complete visibility across all AI agents in operation. This ensures AI is deployed securely and reliably, with human oversight remaining central to decision-making. A strong foundation in Responsible AI is essential for Thai organizations to unlock sustainable, long-term value from AI innovation.”
Fostering Ecosystem Collaboration for Trusted AI

Building safe and trusted AI cannot be achieved by any single entity in isolation. It requires collective collaboration across government, academia, civil society, and industry. Microsoft Thailand remains dedicated to bridging global standards, cutting-edge research, and localized practices to cultivate an AI ecosystem that is safe, transparent, and beneficial for everyone in society.
