Singapore outpaces global average with 17% of Frontier Firms leading comprehensive AI strategies, according to new research commissioned by Microsoft

Singapore, 12 October 2026 – Singapore organisations are making progress in turning AI use into business value, according to new local findings from IDC1 research commissioned by Microsoft and shared today at an event in Singapore convening more than 2,500 business and technology leaders.

Seventeen per cent of Singapore organisations are classified by IDC as Frontier Firms, with robust AI strategies that display higher levels of AI maturity, and realize significantly higher returns on investment and superior business outcomes – as compared with 10% globally.

IDC’s AI maturity scale measures behaviors such as spending discipline, breadth of use, agentic adoption, skills, confidence to address AI risks, and outcomes. According to the research firm that surveyed 200 respondents, AI mature organizations also have higher levels of trust and governance. More broadly, nearly three in four Singapore organisations (73%) have reached the middle or highest levels of AI maturity, compared with 70% globally.

Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft Commercial Business, outlines how organisations can combine people’s ideas with AI and safeguards at the core of how they operate, compete, and grow.

“Singapore is well positioned to translate its leadership in AI adoption into lasting economic and societal impact. As more companies scale AI enterprise-wide on the path to becoming Frontier, they can unlock creativity, accelerate innovation, and drive growth, creating value for employees, customers, and the broader economy,” said Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft Commercial Business.

Across Singapore, businesses are already seeing tangible results from AI, with 68% reporting significant or transformative outcomes that were not previously possible, while 41% say AI is growing revenue or creating new revenue streams.

“Singapore may be a small nation, but we have never allowed the size of our island to determine the size of our ambition. We already rank second in the world on AI diffusion — but adoption is only the starting line. The next chapter of AI leadership will be defined by who scales with trust: rethinking workflows, equipping people to work confidently with AI, strengthening governance, and measuring the value it creates,” said Chia Wee Luen, Managing Director, Microsoft Singapore.

Turning Singapore’s AI ambition into impact

Singapore leaders are increasingly shifting from isolated uses of AI to using it across the organization. For businesses looking to advance as Frontier Firms in the AI era, IDC identifies four priorities: build for intelligence, operationalise trust and observability, advance agentic workflows, and measure and optimise value. Together, these priorities can help organisations move beyond isolated AI use cases and embed AI into workflows, decisions, and business outcomes across the enterprise.

Customers are using AI in everyday work, business operations and public services to create value for employees, customers, and citizens:

  • CPF Board, which administers Singapore’s social security system for retirement, housing, and healthcare, is showing what an AI-enabled public service agency can look like. At the Microsoft AI Tour, they shared how bringing AI into everyday work is helping employees across the organisation work smarter and focus on work that matters most.
  • Genspark is one of the world’s fastest-growing AI-native companies, reaching US$250 million in annual recurring revenue within 12 months of launch. Its agent-first platform goes beyond answering questions to executing tasks, helping users seamlessly turn ideas into finished work. Built on Microsoft Azure, Genspark brings this focus on getting work done to users around the world.
  • Seatrium is harnessing AI to strengthen its global engineering, project execution and operational capabilities across the offshore, marine and energy sectors. Working with Microsoft and leveraging cloud and AI technologies, the company is developing a first-in-kind digital twin foundation to optimise asset utilisation, streamline project delivery and enable faster, data-driven decision-making. Through this transformation, Seatrium aims to drive greater productivity and reliability in delivering offshore energy infrastructure and assets for customers worldwide.

Together, these examples show how the next phase of AI is taking shape across companies built around AI, established enterprises, and public services. The common thread is a move beyond individual tools towards AI used in everyday work and operations.

At the event held at Singapore EXPO, attendees got a firsthand look at how Microsoft technology supports the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team in one of the most demanding environments in sport. Through an immersive race strategy experience, participants stepped into the role of a race strategist, making critical calls using race data and simulation insights before comparing their decisions with those made by the Team. The experience showcased how Microsoft technology helps transform complex data into actionable insights when every decision matters.

Microsoft is supporting customers and partners in Singapore through cloud and AI infrastructure, security, skills development and co-innovation as they move from adoption towards more mature and sustained use of AI. The company is on track to invest US$5.5 billion in Singapore between 2025 and 2029 across its cloud and AI infrastructure and operations.
