How LHDNM is modernizing Malaysia’s tax system to be scalable, secure, and cloud-first

Powered by the cloud, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM)’s new e-Invoicing platform raises the bar for public sector innovation

From traditional documents to real-time digital workflows, LHDNM is transforming how taxes are managed and collected. At the core of this shift is MyInvois, the country’s e-invoicing platform, designed to increase transparency, reduce manual errors, and bring greater speed and trust into the nation’s tax ecosystem.

At the recent Microsoft AI Leadership Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Rasyidah Che Rosli, Director of LHDNM’s e-Invoice Division within the Tax Operations Sector, shares how they are innovating on the cloud.

“Our main goal is simple,” she says. “We want to make business operations more efficient, faster, and more transparent while supporting Malaysia’s broader push toward digitalization.”

Reimagining tax administration, one e-invoice at a time

Launched in August 2024, Malaysia’s e-Invoice initiative marks a major step forward in modernizing public financial services. Designed to simplify how businesses interact with the tax system, MyInvois allows taxpayers to submit invoices via API, web portals, and mobile apps, thus eliminating paperwork and delays.

Enabled by cloud infrastructure and machine learning-driven analytics, MyInvois enhances LHDNM’s ability to process data at scale and detect anomalies, delivering faster, more precise tax administration while supporting informed, data-driven decision-making at the national level.

Since the nationwide implementation of MyInvois, LHDNM has processed more than 1.3 billion invoices.

“The growing adoption shows that businesses are ready and eager to move away from legacy, manual systems,” says Dr. Rasyidah. “Digital invoicing isn’t just about filing taxes. It’s about creating a more agile and transparent business ecosystem.”

But enabling this transformation at national scale requires more than just a front-end tool — it demands a trusted and high-performance digital foundation.

Paving the way for a more transparent future

Beyond digitizing transactions, MyInvois is helping LHDNM unlock a new era of intelligent, data-informed public service. Automation and real-time analytics are improving how the agency operates internally and engages externally with taxpayers.

“Through automation and analytics, we are transforming how we operate internally and how we engage with taxpayers,” Dr. Rasyidah shares. “It’s a win-win: better compliance, less burden, and more insights for policymaking.”

As adoption grows, the platform will support deeper integration across industries and government agencies, enabling real-time verification, proactive fraud detection, and smarter fiscal decision-making.

“Digital transformation is more than just technology,” Dr. Rasyidah concludes. “It’s about setting new standards in public service and building a more transparent and accountable future for all Malaysians.”
