Three creative icebreaker activities with Microsoft Copilot for your next gathering

A movie ticket to enter Copilot Club

Planning an event that stands out can be a challenge, especially when you’re looking to make an impact and create lasting memories. But what if you could effortlessly introduce creativity and fun, all while using technology to spark collaboration? Microsoft Copilot is your AI companion that could offer an exciting way to engage your guests.

Inspired by the Copilot Club event hosted by Microsoft in Malaysia, which brought together media professionals and content creators for a creative, movie-themed experience, we’ve put together some fun icebreaker ideas that use Copilot to energize your next gathering.

1. Copilot or Human? – The ultimate movie quote challenge

Who doesn’t love a good movie quote? Here’s a twist on the traditional movie trivia game: In Copilot or Human?, your guests are tasked with identifying whether a movie quote was written by a human or generated by Copilot.

Participants at the Copilot Club event

How it works:

  • Divide your group into teams (or go solo, if it’s a smaller event).
  • Display famous movie quotes and also quotes generated by Copilot on the screen.
  • The teams or individuals compete to identify whether the line was created by a screenwriter or generated by Copilot.
  • For each correct answer, they score a point. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins!

Why it’s fun
It’s a fantastic conversation starter that blends creativity with friendly competition. The mix of real movie quotes and Copilot-generated ones will have your guests guessing, debating, and laughing as they figure out which lines come from human brains and which ones are powered by AI. It’s also a lighthearted way to showcase how Copilot can mimic human creativity in writing.

How to use it in your gathering:
Want to tailor it to the theme of your event? Pick movie quotes related to the occasion—whether that’s superhero quotes for a fun company event or feel-good classics for a more relaxed gathering. The versatility of the activity means it can easily be adapted to suit any audience.

2. Movie Mastermind – Decode the clues with Copilot

For movie buffs and puzzle lovers, Movie Mastermind is a fun challenge where teams decode obscure clues about famous films, using Copilot’s ability to analyze and generate possible answers.

List of cryptic clues based on well-known movies

How it works:

  • Prepare a series of cryptic clues based on well-known movies (without naming the movie outright).
  • Each group will receive a set of clues, and they’ll work together, using Copilot to help them solve the puzzle.
  • At the end, everyone goes through the correct answers.
  • The team that has the most correct answers wins the round.

Why it’s fun
This activity is engaging because it tests both knowledge and creativity. It also showcases Copilot’s powerful capabilities in processing incomplete or coded information quickly, giving each team an edge when deciphering the clues.

How to use it in your gathering:
To make the activity more challenging, you can tailor the clues to specific themes. For example, a “90s Movie Mania” theme for a nostalgic event, or a “Sci-Fi Challenge” for a tech-savvy crowd. This also allows you to incorporate more niche films for a specialized audience.

3. Lights, Camera, AI! – Create a movie with Copilot

If you’ve ever wanted to invent your own movie, now’s your chance! In Lights, Camera, AI!, teams use Copilot to generate creative movie ideas based on random words, then bring their concept to life with a movie poster designed using Microsoft Designer.

How it works:

  • Each team receives three random words (for example: “Pirate,” “Ice Cream,” “Robot”).
  • They’ll use Copilot to create a movie title and a brief synopsis (around 100 words) based on those words.
  • Next, using Microsoft Designer, they’ll create a visually compelling movie poster to match their idea.
  • Finally, teams will present their movie concept and poster to the rest of the group, and everyone votes on the most creative concept.

Why it’s fun:
This activity brings out the creative storyteller in everyone. It’s an exciting way to see how Copilot can help brainstorm, refine, and structure ideas in a collaborative setting. Participants will be amazed by how quickly they can transform random words into a fully fleshed-out movie concept, and they’ll enjoy the challenge of crafting a movie poster using Microsoft Designer.

How to use it in your gathering:

Customize random words based on the tone or goals of your event. For a more professional setting, you could use keywords related to business or leadership, while for a casual or social event, you can go with more whimsical or humorous combinations. It’s all about creativity and having fun!
