AI empowering developers at ESW based in Dublin to focus on the code that matters

ESW providing next generation ecommerce to globally loved brands using GitHub Copilot

ESW, a global ecommerce technology company, is providing next-generation ecommerce solutions to some of the worlds most loved brands in over 200 countries and has recently started using GitHub Copilot.

ESW provides localised checkout, simplified logistics, as well as handling compliance, taxes, duties, fraud prevention and other requirements, for a range of global fashion, beauty, luxury and consumer goods brands.

People have been writing code for decades, but with GitHub Copilot, Microsoft is changing that entire experience, and has created a new world for developers. A revolutionary generative AI tool for coders and programmers, GitHub Copilot, which is based on the OpenAI model, is trained on millions of lines of code.

Launched in 2023, GitHub Copilot enables developers to reinvent their applications, work more efficiently and above all, enjoy the work they’re doing.

Bruno, director of eng at ESW

“GitHub Copilot helps me to resolve problems quickly and focus on the code that really matters.”

Bruno Quintella, Director of Engineering at ESW, reflecting on the transformational impact of GitHub Copilot, noted that the technology is making ESW developers “less distracted, more efficient and happier overall”.

“GitHub Copilot feels like a ‘virtual pair programmer’, meaning it feels like you have a team of programmers working with you and supporting you.”

Bruno said, “At ESW, we are always looking at ways to optimise our service offerings for clients. We want to facilitate better processes and generate faster experiences when shopping online. Up until now we’ve been using some tools which would have had some level of autocomplete functionality, but AI is moving everything to the next level.

“GitHub Copilot feels like a ‘virtual pair programmer’,” Quintella continued, “meaning it feels like you have a team of programmers working with you and supporting you. At ESW, we are committed to innovation, and so we’ve been exploring how best to leverage the power of generative AI, and Copilot has allowed us to make the most of this emerging technology for the benefit of both our coders and our customers”.

Karim Sadek, Application Innovation Azure Sales Specialist at Microsoft Ireland, noted, “From those who have used the technology so far, we have seen that Copilot not only helps users improve their productivity and efficiency but leaves coders feeling more fulfilled and satisfied. Copilot frees coders from getting bogged down in repetitive tasks and enables them to allocate time and energy to solving bigger problems”.

Kajal Shegle, a senior engineer at ESW, also spoke about Copilot’s transformative impact on her role: “GitHub Copilot helps me to resolve problems quickly and focus on the code that really matters. It has eliminated a lot of the repetition involved in writing code and has allowed me to have time to be more creative. The chat function in particular has been really valuable, particularly for full-stack developers like me, who are working on both the front-end and back-end. I view it as a key learning tool which helps me to upskill, as it analyses the existing code I have written and then offers suggestions on how to improve it”.

At Microsoft, we believe that Copilot can make a truly meaningful change in accelerating the digital transformation of many businesses, just like it has done with ESW.
