Empowering Ireland’s Future Innovators: Inside the Microsoft Dream Space Showcase
One Microsoft Place was filled with energy, creativity and ambition last week as more than 1,000 students from across Ireland came together for our annual Dream Space Showcase.
From developing smart solutions for sustainable food growing to designing tools that support inclusive communication, students demonstrated something powerful: when young people are given the right tools and encouragement, they can use the power of technology to drive real change in their local community.
Turning curiosity into real-world impact
Now in its fourth year, the Microsoft Dream Space Showcase has become a national moment to celebrate what students can achieve through STEM and AI learning. This year, students from 45 schools and clubs across 11 counties presented more than 170 projects, focused on addressing sustainability and inclusions challenges in their local community, related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Students took the skills they had developed over the past year in coding and STEM and applied these to real-world problems in their community to have a real meaningful impact.
One of the students presenting at Showcase, Oisin Dixon, from St. Mary’s National School in Edgeworthstown, County Longford, spoke about the positive impact of the programme in his school, “Dream Space made me see that tech isn’t just something you learn in class, you can actually use it to help people.” Presenting his team’s project at the Dream Space Showcase and seeing what other students had built gave Oisin a real boost in confidence, and a sense of how he could use these skills in the future.
A growing national movement
Since launching in 2018, Microsoft Dream Space has reached more than 550,000 students across the island of Ireland, helping to build essential digital and AI skills for the future.
This year’s Showcase reflects that continued growth, with participation from a record number of counties and even deeper engagement in communities nationwide. A new dedicated programme for data centre communities also saw hundreds of students from South Dublin, Fingal and Kildare take part in tailored STEM and AI learning experiences.
The annual Showcase is just one of 14 initiatives that Microsoft Dream Space provides to engage students in communities across the island of Ireland in STEM and AI learning. For example, the Dream Space Ambassador Programme is equipping students to become STEM leaders in their own schools and communities, helping to bring these skills to tens of thousands more young people across the country.
Building confidence for an AI-powered future
For educators, the impact of Dream Space goes far beyond the Showcase itself. The programme supports a year-long learning journey that makes STEM and AI accessible and practical, and provides learning content that is aligned to the evolving primary curriculum.
Speaking at Showcase, Shannon Boyle, teacher at St. Mary’s National School in Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford said, “Dream Space has been transformative for both students and teachers. The support and access to resources across every step of the programme has been fantastic and made it easy to integrate STEM learning into a classroom setting in a practical and engaging way.”
Giving students the confidence to thrive in our rapidly evolving AI era has never been more important.
As James O’Connor, Corporate Vice President, Microsoft Global Operations Service Centre and Microsoft Ireland Site Leader, reflected at the event: “As AI continues to reshape how we live, work and learn, it’s vital that every student has the skills and confidence to thrive in an AI powered economy. Through a structured, year-long STEM learning journey, the Dream Space programme equips young people with the capabilities they need to navigate our rapidly evolving digital world.”

Looking ahead
At Microsoft Ireland, our ambition is simple: to ensure every student across the island of Ireland has the opportunity to develop the digital and AI skills they need to succeed.
The Dream Space Showcase is just one of several initiatives that is helping young people see themselves as creators, problem-solvers and innovators.
And as this year’s Showcase proved once again, the future is already taking shape in classrooms and communities across Ireland.
