Bangkok, 7 May 2015
– Microsoft is making yet another major stride forward in its mission to deliver the very best in digital life and work experiences with the announcement of the Lumia 640 XL LTE and Lumia 540 Dual SIM in Thailand, plus retail availability for the Surface 3, at the Thailand Mobile Expo (TME) 2015 – the country’s biggest mobile show of the year. Positioned to extend the reach of the Lumia and Surface product families, these Microsoft devices boast the power and versatility that empower everyone to do more and achieve more without breaking the bank.

Slated to arrive in Thailand on May 20th, the Lumia 640 XL LTE is available for pre-orders at the Expo for 8,990 baht along with a free flip case valued at 1,000 baht in an exclusive TME offer. The Surface 3 is available now with prices starting at 17,400 baht. Both devices come with one year of free Office 365 Personal subscription worth 1,899 baht. The Lumia 540 Dual SIM will arrive this June and will be available for 4,990 baht.

Building the momentum

Since its full integration into Microsoft, the Lumia division has been launching a new device nearly every two months, providing consumers with exciting new ways to take advantage Microsoft’s full range of products and services on the Windows platform – including such household names as Skype and Office – while on the go.

Cecile Mengoli, General Manager, Microsoft Mobile Devices
“Mobile devices play a huge role in the lives of Thai consumers – a fact evident in the ratio of 97 million mobile subscriptions versus 67 million in population,” said Cecile Mengoli, General Manager, Microsoft Mobile Devices. “With smartphone penetration in Thailand set to reach 50% this year, we see an opportunity to deliver innovation and the best smartphone experience at more affordable price points,” Ms. Mengoli added.

The new Lumia 640 XL LTE comes hot on the heels of latest quarter for the Lumia family, which saw 8.6 million Lumias sold worldwide. Packing a sharp and colorful 5.7-inch HD screen, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, and 5-megapixel wide-angle front-facing camera, the Lumia 640 XL LTE also comes with one year of free Office 365 Personal subscription, granting buyers access to the world’s universal productivity suite on PCs and tablets of all platforms in addition to the phone itself, which is upgradable to Windows 10.

“We are seeing the ecosystem grow,” added Ms. Mengoli. “The Windows app ecosystem has experienced over 110% year-on-year sales growth and the Windows Store catalogue contains more than 599,000 apps, with hundreds more added every day. We expect this growth to continue with the arrival of Windows 10 and universal apps later this year.”

A follow-up to the popular Lumia 535, the Lumia 540 Dual SIM is designed for young, ambitious people looking for their first serious smartphone, delivering a spacious 5-inch HD display and 8- and 5-megapixel cameras along with full compatibility with Windows 10.

Less is more with Surface

Surface 3, the thinnest and lightest Surface yet, is also making its retail bow at TME 2015. A full Windows 8.1 tablet with an upgrade path to Windows 10, the Surface 3 can transform itself into a full-fledged laptop with the addition of the Surface 3 Type Cover, while the Surface Pen – now available in four vibrant colors – deliver the natural writing and drawing experience that has always been a standout quality for the Surface family.

Ekaraj Panjavinin, Consumer Channel Group Lead, Microsoft Thailand

“In our most recent quarter, we saw global Surface revenue increase by 44% thanks to the Surface Pro 3’s success,” said Ekaraj Panjavinin, Consumer Channel Group Lead, Microsoft (Thailand) Limited. “Consumers and professionals all over the world love the Surface Pro 3, and we are pleased to be extending the Surface family to reach out to more users than ever before with the affordable Surface 3. As with the Lumia 640 XL LTE, the Surface 3 comes with a free year of Office 365 Personal subscription for all your productivity needs.”

Having experienced both devices first-hand, young actress and writer Kamolned “Eye” Ruengsri is full of praise for this combination: “Today’s younger generations live a life of constant movement and sharing, and technology can help us do it all without a pause. I myself believe in sharing the beautiful moments in our lives with others, and the Surface 3 and Lumia 640 XL give me the perfect tools to do that and more. With them, I can record every memorable sight and capture every neat idea with either device through OneDrive and OneNote before sharing and accessing it all in just the way I want all.”
