Bangkok, 2nd June 2015 – Microsoft today announced the appointment of Orapong Thien-Ngern as the new Managing Director of Microsoft Thailand. Orapong will assume this role effective 1st July.

Orapong, a 20+ year veteran of the Thai IT industry, joins the subsidiary from Microsoft’s regional headquarters, where he served as General Manager of Business Strategy for Asia Pacific, helping to develop growth initiatives for Microsoft across the region.

The majority of Orapong’s career prior to Microsoft has been spent with Accenture. In total, he served for 16 years with the management consulting firm across Asia, including his last role as Country Managing Director for Thailand. Whilst at Accenture, he established and led consulting practices in Communications and Banking industries, with both segments contributing to substantial growth for Accenture in Thailand. Orapong has also spent time in public service, serving as a Deputy Secretary-General in the Prime Minister Office in Thailand. In this role, he provided advice on economic and technology policies spanning SME, education and agriculture to international trade.

Orapong is joining Microsoft Thailand during a period of significant change for the company. Sparked by the appointment of new CEO, Satya Nadella, Microsoft has recently embarked on a major corporate transformation with the goal of being the Productivity and Platform company for what it sees as an increasingly “mobile-first, cloud-first” world.

“I could not be more excited about the opportunity that lies ahead of us. We have a bold ambition – to empower every person and every organization in Thailand to be able to do more and achieve more. And I believe we have the team with the passion and persistence to achieve it!” said Orapong.

Orapong will succeed current Microsoft Thailand Managing Director, Haresh Khoobchandani, who is returning to Singapore to take up a new regional role as General Manager of Microsoft Business Solutions for the Asia-Pacific region. Amongst his many achievements during 3 successful years as Managing Director of Microsoft Thailand, Khoobchandani drove and led Microsoft’s largest-ever Cloud agreement in the Education sector with the Thailand Office of Basic Education, bringing Office365 to 8 million Thai students and 400,000 Thai teachers.

As Managing Director of Microsoft Thailand, Orapong will also be a member of Microsoft’s Asia Pacific Leadership Team. Asia-Pacific President, Cesar Cernuda, commented, “Orapong brings deep local knowledge, expertise and unique insights to this role. We are thrilled to have someone with his experience leading our team of highly-committed local professionals, dedicated to helping our customers succeed in a mobile-first, cloud-first world”.
