Joint effort to focus on developing skills, accelerating digital capabilities, and creating new innovations that transform state agencies for an e-Government
Bangkok – 9 September 2021 – Microsoft (Thailand) and National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a digital transformation partnership. The virtual MoU signing ceremony was held today under an effort to elevate the public sector’s operational performance and capacity to deliver services to businesses and the general public – including digital transformation progress as well as digital skills development. The agreement also covers Microsoft’s support for NT’s own internal and external digital transformation – from enhancing NT’s operations and workforce to joint product and service development as well as collaborative business opportunities.
Gp. Capt. Somsak Khaosuwan, Director and Acting President of National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT), said, “National Telecom Public Company Limited, or NT, is the state-run entity responsible for providing telecommunication and digital services to all – including the general public – and delivering strong capabilities that prepare Thailand for greater quality of life as well as economic growth. Furthermore, NT is the primary driving force behind the Digital 4.0 policy, which aims to transform the public sector into an e-Government for the Thailand 4.0 era. As a telecommunications operator, NT also provides telecom and digital services for the public sector with a focus on integrating data across the sector to drive economic prosperity and national security. Given our pre-existing and longstanding expertise in telecom and digital infrastructure, I believe that this partnership with Microsoft Thailand will open up new possibilities in how we work, enabling us to deliver even more advanced services that accelerate the journey towards Thailand 4.0.”
Mr. Dhanawat Suthumpun, Managing Director of Microsoft Thailand, said, “This partnership is a crucial opportunity for us to contribute to Thailand’s potential by leveraging our technological expertise in the optimization of NT’s capabilities, which will in turn lead to benefits at both organizational and national levels. Apart from technologies such as cloud, data, AI, and cybersecurity, we will also be providing support in skills development with learning resources and professional expertise, while our work together will help form a stronger collaborative network for business opportunities with NT. Beyond that, we are looking forward to jointly developing advanced products and services that address the needs of NT’s public and private sector clients, making our partnership a significant contribution to Thailand’s competitiveness.
“Our partnership with NT represents a continuation of Microsoft’s commitment to drive technological capabilities for all – including fostering digital innovations for state agencies and realizing opportunities in the New S-Curve industries in line with government policies,” added Dhanawat.
The Memorandum of Understanding covers 4 key pillars of collaboration, including:
- Transform NT Operations: Modernized digital infrastructure will allow NT to unleash their full potential to compete in the market and leverage technologies such as Hyper-scale Cloud, Modern Workplace, Data and AI, and the Internet of Things along with world-class security solutions to enhance operational excellence across all corporate and business functions.
- Enabling Cloud Capabilities and a Digital Culture: NT employees at all levels are to be equipped with future-ready skills through Microsoft’s digital skill programs. They will also learn from best practices and be encouraged to adopt DevOps-driven culture, principles, and tools to better respond to the needs of NT’s customers, build greater confidence in creating new innovations, and achieve business goals faster than ever.
- Cloud Business Opportunity: Together as digital transformation partners, Microsoft and NT will jointly explore cloud business opportunities to serve and improve the Thai public sector’s digital transformation journey, ultimately creating impactful changes across the networks and channels of both parties.
- Co-create Products & Services: Microsoft and NT will bring together the expertise, tools, technologies, and resources to co-create innovative new solutions and business models that better address the demands of government agencies in data services, inter-organizational collaboration, data-driven operations, and 5G.
“We are confident that this partnership will offer a well-rounded boost to NT and Thailand – from building advanced digital skills for the public sector workforce and NT personnel to elevating security, digital public services, data-driven public development, and cultural evolution towards greater innovation and agility at the organizational level,” said Dhanawat.
Gp. Capt. Somsak Khaosuwan added: “NT stands ready to make lives better through telecommunications and digital innovations that elevate living standards at the pace of technological progress. Furthermore, we are ready to play a key role in driving digital transformation policies and ushering in a truly digital society.”
