Artificial intelligence to make great strides in the fight against child pornography

The clarification of abuse depictions of children and adolescents on the Internet is becoming increasingly complex because a wealth of evidence has to be evaluated in a short time. This is where artificial intelligence (AI) can make a valuable contribution. This is proven by the successfully completed research project of the Ministry of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Central Cybercrime Department of North Rhine-Westphalia (ZAC NRW) at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Cologne, and Microsoft Germany. A legally secure and hybrid cloud solution for the automated detection and categorization of child and youth pornography was developed, which has fully proven its worth in the preservation of evidence in the test phase to date.
