Announcing Nutanix Cloud Clusters on Azure

Today, we are thrilled to announce the general availability of Nutanix Cloud Clusters (NC2) on Microsoft Azure to simplify and accelerate the customer journey to the cloud. Using our Australia East (Sydney) Azure region, Nutanix customers can migrate and extend their workloads to Azure, without modification or retooling. With Nutanix Cloud Clusters on Azure, customers can leverage their existing Nutanix skills and tools, add Azure services such as security, identity, and analytics, and gain cost efficiencies by using their existing licenses for Azure deployment.

This move provides customers with the choice to run their workloads in a hybrid cloud environment, protecting their existing investments in Nutanix software while enabling them to leverage all the benefits of Microsoft Azure. With NC2 on Azure, customers can deploy and manage their workloads in their own Azure account and VNet, and manage Azure instances from Nutanix’s management interface. This keeps their operating model simple and consistent between Azure and on-premises, enabling customers to run hybrid workloads seamlessly across private clouds and Microsoft Azure without needing to re-architect their applications. This also brings lower total cost of ownership when compared to other cloud deployment solutions.

“Organizations are embracing hybrid multicloud to easily scale from on-prem to the public cloud, optimize costs for performant and secure workloads, and tap into a flexible subscription model,” said Rajiv Ramaswami, President and CEO of Nutanix. “NC2 on Azure gives our customers a frictionless on-ramp to Azure with consistent management of apps and data across their hybrid multicloud environment.”

Customers can also take advantage of Azure Hybrid Benefit as well as Extended Security Updates to improve cost, security, and efficiency. Nutanix customers will be able to port their existing term licenses to NC2 on Azure or get on-demand consumption of Nutanix software through the Azure Marketplace.

“While public cloud has solidified as a crucial investment for businesses, many customers need to run and manage workloads across public and private cloud environments,” said Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President, Cloud + AI Group, Microsoft. “As well as consistency, NC2 on Azure reduces network latency and increases cost efficiency.”

Customers can also leverage NC2 on Azure to:

  • Simplify and optimize disaster recovery, eliminating the need to maintain a secondary site by utilizing Microsoft Azure’s on-demand capacity for failover.

  • Access on-demand capacity bursting to Microsoft Azure, rapidly scaling capacity while leveraging existing applications and tooling.

  • Migrate and modernize their datacenters by easily moving their existing applications and data as-is without costly and time-consuming refactoring or retooling.

Key benefits

With Nutanix Cloud Clusters on Azure, organizations can develop a consistent hybrid cloud deployment strategy, while using their existing skillsets and taking full advantage of Azure services. Key benefits include:

  • Optimize existing investments: Leverage your team’s existing Nutanix skills and tools to migrate and extend Nutanix workloads to Azure by easily moving existing applications and data as-is without refactoring or retooling.

  • Gain cloud scale and agility: Spin up or spin down Nutanix resources in Azure as needed – a great way to accommodate changing needs such as seasonal business trends or mergers and acquisitions. Or set up disaster recovery in the cloud. No need to overprovision your datacenters – pay for what you use in the cloud.

  • Modernize with native Azure services: Drive innovation through integration with other Azure services, such as Azure Active Directory, security, AI, and analytics.

How might businesses use it?

Organizations can leverage current on-premises investments and quickly increase business agility with Azure services. Outlined below are a few common scenarios:

  • Frictionless app migration to Azure: Accelerate Azure adoption by migrating applications from on-premises environments to Azure without re-tooling or code change. Customers can move to Azure faster and easily integrate with Azure services to modernize applications.

  • Business continuity and on-demand computing: Maintain business continuity during planned or unplanned downtime with disaster recovery (DR) and on-demand elasticity. Customers can also scale up or out to meet their seasonal and ad-hoc bursting requirements. For example, organizations can keep a small 3-node cluster running 24/7 on Azure, and rapidly expand the cluster size to its full capacity when a DR need arises.

  • Hybrid-cloud with unified management experience: Nutanix Cloud Clusters on Azure empowers customers to orchestrate their infrastructure across public and private clouds through a single, consistent interface. Customers can update capacity, monitor alerts and usage, replace hosts and more through their existing on-premises tools.

  • Global expansion without physical datacenter presence: Run workloads in any supported Azure region without managing datacenters in a specific geographic region.
