Mater prescribes strategic cloud overhaul to maximise impact for 600,000 patients

Partners with Microsoft to build intelligent digital ecosystem

Microsoft is proud to partner with the Queensland-based not-for-profit organisation, Mater on a sweeping modernisation program that is transforming the way the organisation provides care to almost 600,000 patients annually across its healthcare network.

With a network of hospitals across Queensland and a Mater atHome service that provides health services through 30,000 home visits per year, the organisation is rolling out a modern digital ecosystem based on Microsoft technologies that is designed to optimise patient care and boost operational efficiency across the group.

Mater has deployed Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform, and Dynamics 365. It accelerated the deployment with the support of the Microsoft Catalyst program in order to be COVID-ready.

Microsoft Teams was rolled out in less than two weeks, supporting the organisation’s need to implement improved collaboration and teleconferencing for over 9,000 personnel as the pandemic took hold. Mater also used Dynamics 365 to support the delivery of health services for Queenslanders in hotel quarantine when returning from overseas or interstate.

Dynamics 365 Customer Service and Dynamics 365 Field Service is being deployed by Mater  to deliver a 360-degree view across all hospital interactions with patients, foundation donors, researchers, students, visiting medical officers and staff. This will help minimise manual tasks, and streamlines operations – all while reducing the cost of care.

With Dynamics 365, we ensure staff don’t have to repeat the same questions so the time they spend with patients is efficient and personalised. Alastair Sharman, Chief Digital Officer, Mater

The system is proving to be particularly valuable for the Mater at Home service helping to predict and manage home visits, optimising both costs and patient outcomes.

Mater also plans to work with the Microsoft Catalyst team to accelerate the roll out of Dynamics 365 Finance and Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management,  aiming to go live in late-2021.

Dr Nic Woods, chief medical officer Microsoft Australia said; “We have worked closely with Mater to understand every aspect of the organisation and partnered on digital solutions that are delivering benefits for patients, Mater staff and it’s partners.

“With robust modern digital foundations now in place, and a comprehensive understanding of the clinical and operational challenges facing Mater, Microsoft is confident that our technology is the right choice for the innovative, data rich and intelligent solutions that will ensure Mater remains at the forefront of modern healthcare.”
