Microsoft Names New General Manager in Hong Kong

30-year Technology Industry Veteran Peter Yeung to Retire

Hong Kong – October 11, 2012 – Microsoft Greater China Region (GCR) announced today that, after serving three years as the General Manager of Microsoft’s Hong Kong subsidiary and more than 30 years as an IT industry leader in Hong Kong, Peter Yeung has decided to retire in November. Stepping into the GM role is Horace Chow, who most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of Database & Technology for SAP China.

Ralph Haupter, Corporate Vice President, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft GCR said of Yeung’s retirement, “While it is sad to see PY leave our team, we all understand his desire to spend more time with his family after such an illustrious career. Under his leadership over the past three years we saw double-digit growth, significant improvements in customer and partner satisfaction and an all-time-high level of employee satisfaction in Hong Kong. He will be missed.”

Yeung’s 30-year career in Hong Kong included leadership roles at Jardine OneSolution, Digital Equipment, Compaq and HP, as well as Microsoft.

He said of his decision to retire, “I have reached the point in my life where family priorities have become decidedly more important. It is therefore time for me to step down. I’d like to specially thank Ralph, the GCR and Hong Kong Leadership teams, the Hong Kong team for their trust and guidance without which I wouldn’t have made it this far.” He continued, “Microsoft has a great team in Hong Kong and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they will be phenomenally successful under Horace’s leadership.”

Horace Chow will officially join Microsoft Hong Kong as General Manager as soon as he completes transition work on his current assignment. As GM, Chow will be responsible for overall strategy, business operations and outreach for the company in Hong Kong. He will lead the executive team responsible for Microsoft’s business in Hong Kong including key customer organizations, business and marketing groups, and technical support and consultancy services.

Chow is a data management, business intelligence and enterprise mobility industry veteran who most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of Database & Technology for SAP China. In that role, he was responsible for overall strategic development and driving business performance for all SAP database offerings including critical engagement with customers and partners.

Prior to SAP, Chow was the Vice President and General Manager of North Asia for Sybase’s Asia Pacific Operations where he was responsible for financial performance and market leadership in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea markets. Under his leadership as GM, Sybase successfully helped leading corporations across Asia deploy Sybase data management, mobility and business intelligence solutions in industry verticals including banking, telecommunications, government and retail. Before Sybase, Chow was a Manager in the IT Consulting Practice of KPMG Management Consulting.
