November 28, 2023, Hong Kong – In the face of ever-evolving cybersecurity threats and the global shortage of skilled security professionals, the adoption of generative AI solutions has become imperative for organizational safety. In Hong Kong, the number of online deceptions represents over 75% of the total number of deception cases in the first half of 2023, resulting in losses totaling $2.69 billion, a 28% increase from the previous period[1]. At today’s Microsoft Hong Kong Cybersecurity Summit 2023, Microsoft revealed the latest cybersecurity insights to help businesses protect more with less.

Innovation essential to counter rising cybersecurity challenges

Along with the rise of AI and as the digital domain continues to evolve, cyberattacks have grown rapidly in channels and types. Amidst sophisticated attack techniques, a shortage of talent and expertise, and complex toolsets for multiple touchpoints, organizations are facing numerous new challenges in combating cybersecurity threats in the modern world and securing a protected business environment.

“AI creates both new threats and opportunities for defense. We need to augment the work of our skilled security professionals by using AI with the lightning-fast processing speeds, rapid pattern recognition, and continual improvements of generative AI,” said Irina Nechaeva, General Manager of Identity & Network Access at Microsoft. “Going forward, organizations looking to minimize their vulnerabilities must respond by modernizing their organizational skills, mindset, approach and technology.”

Generative AI-powered solutions augment human strengths

Attackers are already using AI as a weapon to refine phishing messages and improve influence operations with synthetic imagery. But AI will also be crucial for successful defense, automating and augmenting aspects of cybersecurity such as threat detection, response, analysis, and prediction. AI can also enable large language models (LLMs) to generate natural language insights and recommendations from complex data, helping make analysts more effective and responsive.

Microsoft is accelerating innovation with transformative AI-powered security solutions. Security Copilot is the first generative AI security product to enable defenders to move at the speed and scale of AI to unlock new business opportunities across different industries under a safe environment with end-to-end security. It goes beyond traditional security automation by building the solution that is informed by Microsoft’s unique global threat intelligence and more than 65 trillion daily signals.

“Microsoft’s adoption of generative AI in security solutions has brought end-to-end security beyond the traditional protection,” said Abbas Kudrati, Chief Cybersecurity Advisor at Microsoft Asia. “With Security Copilot, security analysts can move faster, requiring a shorter time for response and remediation, and more time to focus on high value tasks. It customizes every query with a natural language interface and language translation, which essentially simplifies the complex process for every organization and unlocks new business opportunities for them.”

Since launching its Early Access Program in October, Microsoft has received positive customer feedback globally on its ability to enhance prevention, detection, and response to cybersecurity threats, ensuring more protection with less. Some key findings include:

  • Security Copilot demonstrated 44% more accurate response and were 26% faster across all tasks.
  • 86%reported that Security Copilot helped them improve the quality of their work.
  • 83%stated that Security Copilot reduced the effort needed to complete the task.
  • Saving up to 40% of their security analysts’ time on foundational tasks like investigation response, threat hunting, and threat intelligence assessments.
  • 60% savings by consolidating a patchwork of vendors for a comprehensive solution from Microsoft.
  • 72% reduced likelihood of a breach with Microsoft Security.

”Operating in one of APAC’s key financial hubs, providing a secure and protected environment remains a strategic focus for Microsoft Hong Kong,“ said, Henry Li, Head of Specialist Team Unit, Microsoft Hong Kong. “The AI era presents new challenges and opportunities for organizations looking to protect themselves. Cybersecurity is no longer just an IT concern; it has become a strategic imperative that permeates every aspect of an organization. Microsoft Hong Kong is dedicated to providing a secure and protected environment through generative AI-powered end-to-end solutions, safeguarding Hong Kong’s position as a comprehensive, high-quality financial platform for businesses worldwide.”

Irina Nechaeva, General Manager of Identity & Network Access at Microsoft attended the Cybersecurity Summit 2023 to speak on the new security landscape in the era of AI, while Abbas Kudrati, Chief Cybersecurity Advisor at Microsoft Asia, shared how Security Copilot can empower defenders to disrupt attackers’ traditional advantages and drive innovation for their organizations.
