Microsoft Survey Shows Asian Educators Aim to Improve Technology Use in Classroom and Training

To get a better understanding of educators’ plans to invest in technology in the near future, as well as their challenges and difficulties in optimizing technology use in classrooms, Microsoft conducted the “Microsoft Asia EduTech Survey 2016” in November 2015. It interviewed educators from 18 APAC countries and cities including Hong Kong. According to the survey, most of the respondents (95%) mentioned that leveraging technology can help transform education and inspire students. In addition, the advantages of using technology in classrooms cited most often by respondents include enhancing the classroom learning experience; greater efficiency in their role; and better communications with students.

Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016 Hong Kong Final Announced Champions

Organized by Microsoft Hong Kong and co-organized by the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), the competition comprised three categories: “World citizenship”, “Games” and “Innovation”. Wheelman from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Polytechnic University, HelloPlanet from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and KinectGarten from Hong Kong Polytechnic University won the “World citizenship”, “Games” and “Innovation” categories respectively.

Microsoft Empowers Organizations to Combat Ransomware

Ransomware has gone rampant both globally and locally. Following FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center’s recent report of 2,453 ransomware cases and nearly US$24.1 million in payment made by victims in 2015, there has been a surge in reported cases of Locky – the most malicious ransomware of late – in Hong Kong in recent months. According to the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT), more than 40 reports of Locky have been received since mid-February, 2016, which included around 2 cases reported from the enterprises, 30 cases from SMEs, 2 cases from NGOs and 4 cases from home users. To empower consumers, schools, and organizations in Hong Kong and around the world to combat the latest malware threat, Microsoft has stepped up efforts in offering advice and solutions based on data and insights from its Digital Crimes Unit (DCU).
