EFY Times: Microsoft launches Linux powered OS

Microsoft is making innovative moves under the leadership of Indian origin CEO Satya Nadella as it has just announced a Linux powered operating system for datacenter networking. Principal Architect, Azure Networking, Kamala Subramaniam, wrote on the company blog, “The Azure Cloud Switch (ACS) is our foray into building our own software for running network devices like switches. It is a cross-platform modular operating system for data center networking built on Linux. ACS allows us to debug, fix, and test software bugs much faster. It also allows us the flexibility to scale down the software and develop features that are required for our datacenter and our networking needs.”

The Hans India: Ensuring sanitation for 10,000 students

As part of the Microsoft’s ‘Giving Campaign’, employees handed over sanitation facilities to 42 schools in Telangana, Haryana and Karnataka. This also marked the culmination of a six-month long awareness campaign about sanitation and hygiene for 10,746 students in these 42 schools. The campaign was run with help from Charities Aid Foundation. The employees handed over the sanitation facilities to school authorities, teachers and students at GGHS, Mustaidpura Government School in the presence of Ravi Kumar Deputy District Education Officer, Government of Telangana and Amit Sircar, General Manager, Managing Director, Microsoft Services Global Delivery.

For millions, Skype remains the go-to VoIP app for messaging and communication. But millions more use WhatsApp or Google Hangouts or another solution. For them, Skype has a new option: initiating a Skype session via a direct link. Users of Skype for Windows, Skype for Mac, or Skype for the Web will soon be able to send friends a link. Once they accept it, they’ll be able to launch Skype from the web and join the conversation.

Business leaders and IT professionals from across the UK attended a conference in a country house in Warwickshire to hear Microsoft reveal new developments that will determine how businesses are run in the future. James Akrigg, Microsoft’s Head of Technology for Partners, described the company’s aim to “reinvent” productivity and business processes through a more personal experience using an “intelligent” cloud powered by predictive analytics and technology.
