Charu is the site leader for the growing Cloud + AI organization at IDC and an engineering leader for Azure, responsible for the Compute engineering organization. During her near-thirty-year career at Microsoft in the US and in India, Charu has demonstrated engineering excellence, innovation, and strong organization leadership over multiple roles at the organization. She has delivered innovation in many areas including database replication, server virtualization, data protection, disaster recovery, migration, modernization and hybrid management.

Charu is currently responsible for exploring new technology directions, articulating a long-term technical vision, developing effective engineering processes, partnering with key stakeholders to build a strong internal and external brand and recruiting, mentoring, and growing great talent.

Charu is passionate and intentional about creating a culture of inclusion and has led numerous efforts to attract, develop, and retain diverse talent at Microsoft.

Charu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Anna University and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from University of California, Santa Barbara. Charu is a Board member on the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Committee on Technology and helped create the founding vision for CII’s Centre of Excellence on Digital Transformation. Charu has provided the founding vision of the Microsoft WISE Mentoring Program where tech leaders at Microsoft volunteer to mentor women in computer science and software engineering.
