Microsoft is betting advanced analytics to augment its mobile-first, cloud-first effort. The company has announced that it is acquiring Revolution Analytics, a US-based big data analytics specialist and open-source software company. The acquisition will help Microsoft in spreading the use of advanced analytics in its products including Azure cloud, according to David Smith, Community Officer, Revolution Analytics.

Microsoft researchers have created a scarf that can be commanded to heat up and vibrate via a smartphone app, part of an exploration of how the accessory could eventually work with emerging biometric and emotion-sensing devices. It could, perhaps, soothe you if a sensor on your body determines you’re down — a function that could be particularly useful for people who have trouble managing their emotions.
