Kudo Tsunoda, Corporate Vice President, Next Gen Experiences, Windows and Devices Group at Microsoft has announced in a blog post today the acquisition of Simplygon, a leading developer of automatic 3D data optimisation solutions.

Founded by Donya Labs AB, a privately held company based in Sweden, Simplygon brings with it a whole host of technology and talent which will strengthen Microsoft’s already formidable position in 3D creation. The company’s leading expertise in developing 3D data optimisation solutions, including 3D game optimisation, will help creators and users of 3D data optimise their content and improve their workflow.

The acquisition will contribute greatly to Microsoft’s 3D For Everyone vision and strategy, which was unveiled last October during the Windows 10 Creators Update event in New York, during which Microsoft wowed the tech world with its demonstration of 3D object scanning (demonstrated above) and manipulation using Paint 3D.
