NEW YORK, NY, May 19, 1997 — No more excuses for going to the same restaurant again, missing the one concert you wanted to see or enduring another evening of takeout and TV reruns when a city of entertainment options awaits. New York Sidewalk
™
city guide, published by Microsoft Corp., is now available on the World Wide Web at (http://sidewalk.com)
There are thousands of restaurants in New York City. Hundreds of movie houses. A bar or nightclub on most every corner. Theaters. Galleries. Museums. According to a recent Sidewalk survey, New Yorkers report that when they decide to go out on the town, they usually have an
“amazing time.”
But surprisingly:
-
More than half of all New Yorkers admit they often watch TV, order takeout and rent videos because they are too tired or too busy to make plans to go out,
-
Three out of four New Yorkers claim they missed out on a performance or event they cared about because they didn’t find out about it in time,
-
Six out of ten times, New Yorkers dine at the same old place rather than try someplace new,
(*Results from a 1997 Sidewalk survey of more than 1,000 New Yorkers)
“Our research shows New Yorkers are working longer hours and paying the price in their social lives,”
said Cella Irvine, general manager of Sidewalk.
“That’s why we designed Sidewalk to be a personalized online city guide. It’s like having a team of entertainment advisors on the streets everyday matching your tastes and interest with the best the city has to offer.”
“Sidewalk is the next generation of city media,”
said Eric Etheridge, executive producer of Sidewalk.
“We cover thousands of entertainment options every day, and then customize the information so you can find the one or two that are right for you.”
New York Sidewalk covers everything from concerts to movies and restaurants to sporting events, with previews, reviews and even personalized recommendations about what’s happening in the city.
Other Sidewalk city guides are scheduled to launch in 10 to 15 key cities by the end of the year including; Boston, the Twin Cities, San Francisco, Houston, Washington, D.C.,
San Diego, Denver and Sydney, Australia.
