MSN CarPoint Wins Top Score for Auto Buying Web Sites, Continues to Lead Online Auto Buying Services in Visitor Numbers

REDMOND, Wash., July 8, 1999 — Microsoft Corp. today announced that the MSN TM CarPoint TM online automotive service ( http://www.carpoint.MSN.com/ ) earned Gomez Advisors Inc.’s top overall score in the group’s first Internet Auto Buying Scorecard, an evaluation of auto buying Web sites. Gomez, a leading authority on Internet products and services, awarded CarPoint first place in five out of nine categories including Overall Score, Ease of Use, First-Time Buyer, Tire-Kicker and Enthusiast.

Along with the Gomez honor, CarPoint continues to win consumers’ enthusiasm, having attracted the most auto buying Web site visitors for the first five months of 1999, according to Media Metrix Inc.

“We’re proud to receive endorsements from consumers and the Internet’s top reviewers,”
said Lindsay Sparks, general manager, MSN CarPoint.
“It shows that online shoppers and industry watchers agree: ease of use, relevant and comprehensive information, and reliable service distinguish CarPoint from the competition.”

Gomez reviewers highlighted in-depth reviews, 360-degree surround videos and Personal Auto Page as standout CarPoint features. The evaluators also cited consumer knowledge and integrated products and services as factors contributing to the CarPoint site’s powerhouse performance.

Comparing CarPoint to some of the most respected names in the auto world, the Gomez reviewers stated that,
“Like NASCAR superstar Jeff Gordon, Overall Number One CarPoint looks good, performs well, and is a frequent visitor to the winner’s circle.”
The Gomez evaluators concluded their review by saying,
“It’s easier to find faults with a Lamborghini’s engine than with [the CarPoint] site.”
