Microsoft Launches New Windows Media Player 7 for Pocket PC

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 12, 2000 — Today at Streaming Media West 2000, Microsoft Corp. announced the immediate availability of the Microsoft® Windows Media Player 7 for Pocket PC. This new player offers Casio Computer Co., Compaq Computer Corp. and Hewlett-Packard (HP) Pocket PC users the ability to download and play Windows Media video as well as music content. Pocket PC owners will be able to download videos such as news clips, music videos and Windows Media and MP3 music from the Web directly onto their Pocket PC, and even play back their own home movies they have edited using Windows® Movie Maker in Windows Millennium (Windows Me). This underscores Microsoft’s commitment to enabling consumer access to digital media any time, any place and on any device.

Windows Media Player 7 for Pocket PC includes support for the Windows Media Audio and Video Format, an integrated skin chooser and support for Windows Media Digital Rights Management for both secure music and video. Windows Media Player 7 for Pocket PC is available for download today for owners of Compaq iPAQ Pocket PCs, the HP Jornada and the Casio Cassiopeia Pocket PC models.
