Indianapolis Colts Peyton Manning Quarterbacks “NFL Fever 2002” For the Xbox

REDMOND, WASH. SEPT. 4, 2001 — Microsoft Corp. today announced it had reached an agreement with Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl quarterback Peyton Manning for Manning to be the spokesman for “NFL Fever 2002,” Microsoft’s exclusive football title for the Xbox (TM) video game system.

With over 12,000 passing yards and 85 touchdown passes completed in just three NFL seasons, Manning has established himself as one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL. As part of the deal, Manning lent his extensive football knowledge to the game producers, and his image will appear on all “NFL Fever 2002” packaging and merchandising, including the inaugural “NFL Fever 2002” box cover. He also participated in motion-capture sessions in which every detail of his game was captured from multiple camera angles to re-create his precision handoffs and cannon-like throws for “NFL Fever 2002.”

“It was exciting to be a part of ‘NFL Fever 2002’ from its inception,” Manning said. “I worked a lot with the game producers and gave them some tips on how to read defenses and pick the open receivers, and I think the game turned out incredible. I can’t wait to play the guys in the locker room.”

“Peyton Manning’s competitive spirit and ability to make split-second decisions translates perfectly into the style of play in ‘NFL Fever 2002,'” said Ed Fries, vice president of Microsoft®
Games at Microsoft. “The only way for fans to get closer to the action would be to step on the field with Peyton himself.”

NFL broadcast analysts Dick Stockton and Ron Pitts have been tapped to call the hard-hitting football action, and legendary rapper Chuck D and hip-hop group N*E*R*D contributed musical tracks for “NFL Fever 2002,” including a remixed version of the Public Enemy hit “Welcome to the Terror Dome.”

“NFL Fever 2002” combines fast and aggressive action with deep season and career modes. In addition, “NFL Fever 2002” features stadiums from all 31 NFL teams, enables gamers to participate in up to 25 seasons, and allows players to amass both individual and team trophies and build their own dynasties, season after season. The ease of use and fast-playing NFL tempo lets gamers explode through the holes and break loose, just like real NFL players do.
