Statement by Bill Gates Regarding His Election to the Board of Directors of Berkshire Hathaway

REDMOND, Wash. — Dec. 14, 2004 — Microsoft Corporation today released the following statement from Bill Gates, Chairman and Chief Software Architect of Microsoft, regarding his election today to the Board of Directors of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.:

“I am delighted and honored to have been asked to serve on the board of this very successful company. I am hopeful that my previous years of board service with both Microsoft and ICOS will prove to be of value to Berkshire Hathaway shareholders.”
