The Holidays Are Almost Over, but the Sales Are Just Beginning

REDMOND, Wash., Dec. 19, 2003 — Now that the holidays are almost over, shoppers are getting ready to take advantage of post-holiday sales. But as prices go down, lines at cash registers get longer, filled with people returning gifts and buying new items. That’s why MSN®
Shopping is launching a post-holiday sale online in the United States for people who want to take advantage of deep discounts, but don’t want to stand in line behind thousands of people returning ugly sweaters or pants that are three sizes too small.

From Dec. 26 to Jan. 9 in the United States, MSN Shopping customers will have access to discounts of up to 50 percent off items from hundreds of top retailers, including Kmart, Neiman Marcus, Spiegel, Staples Inc. and The Sports Authority.

According to the National Retail Federation, 10 percent of all holiday sales take place after Christmas. As a result, the crowds and the traffic at the mall are remarkably high at that time.

“Holiday mall shopping is stressful enough, and post-holiday sale shopping can be even worse,” said Wayne Scot Lukas, MSN Shopping guru and fashion stylist to the stars. “We’re all exhausted after the holidays. Who wants to see a mall parking lot, or a pushy line of people returning gifts while you’re trying to shop? MSN Shopping gives you access to great prices from hundreds of stores — and you don’t even have to leave home. It’s like having loads of outlet stores and huge mall-like sales all to yourself.”

In addition to post-holiday discounts, MSN Shopping offers the following features to help people find what they’re looking for quickly and easily, and get the best price available:

  • MSN Shopping Assistant. Free personal shoppers offer live 24×7 assistance ranging from offering purchase suggestions to helping users find specific items.

  • MSN Shopping search. This function allows shoppers to compare prices, features and reviews of products side by side to find the best deal.
