Office expands to the cloud

Microsoft took its flagship suite of productivity and collaboration services to the cloud with the launch of Office 365.

The subscription service allowed users to access email, files and Office programs such as Word and PowerPoint from any location or device, and the inclusion of Lync provided videoconferencing capabilities.

The service, aimed at boosting collaboration and cutting costs for organizations, offered an edition for small businesses and a customizable solution for larger enterprises.
