The final edition of ‘Codess’, a global engineering platform for women initiated by Microsoft, was held at the Microsoft India Development Centre in Hyderabad, recently. To address that, Microsoft has developed Project Torino, a system consisting of a programming language and large colorful toys called pods, which can be used to make sounds, stories, poems, and songs in order to teach coding concepts to children with visual impairments.

Over four months after its official launch, Project Olympus by Microsoft has finalized its future moves and expanded the open source hardware development by adding semiconductor manufacturers like NVIDIA, Intel, Qualcomm, AMD and Cavium. The Industrial Design Centre (IDC) in IIT Bombay has designed Swarachakra, a free Indian language keyboard for Android phones. Swarachakra is available in 12 Indian languages, and is integrated with the Better Together framework, which allows users to run an application on multiple phones at the same time. The Better Together toolkit and Swarachakra keyboard will be unveiled at the Microsoft Research in Bangalore.

Microsoft is introducing text-to-speech/speech-to-text options for both Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. By enabling this option, the voice chat of the other players will be automatically transcribed into text at the side of the screen in real time.

Microsoft will distribute the final version of the Windows 10 “Creators Update” to testers by the end of this month, enabling anyone to create, share and experience in 3-D and mixed reality, connect people faster, and empower every gamer to be a broadcaster. “The kits will include the Acer headset, along with documentation and access to Windows 10 Insider preview builds and the software development kit (SDK) to enable developers to build mixed reality applications,” said Alex Kipman, Technical Fellow, Microsoft.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman joined Microsoft’s board, where he hopes to deepen Microsoft’s Silicon Valley ties and work on artificial intelligence. “From this position, I will continue to focus on helping LinkedIn fulfill its mission of increasing the economic productivity of individual professionals and the companies they work for,” Hoffman wrote.

Microsoft has rolled out a new preview feature for Windows 10, which will allow users to try out games and other productivity apps before purchasing them. Google is also testing a similar feature called Instant Apps on the Play Store.
