The final edition of ‘Codess’, a global engineering platform for women initiated by Microsoft, was held at the Microsoft India Development Centre in Hyderabad, recently. Charumathy Srinivasan, Partner Group Engineering Manager-Cloud and Enterprise Division said that Microsoft has organised the programme to develop capabilities and skills of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) areas. The event this year received a total of 1,200 plus applications from 40 colleges across the country. In addition to ‘Codess Microsoft also offers a programme called DigiGirlz for school girls.

The Industrial Design Centre (IDC) in IIT Bombay has designed Swarachakra, a free Indian language keyboard for Android phones. Swarachakra is available in 12 Indian languages, and is integrated with the Better Together framework, which allows users to run an application on multiple phones at the same time. The Better Together toolkit and Swarachakra keyboard will be unveiled at the Microsoft Research in Bangalore.
