As remote work and collaboration intensified during the Movement Control Order (MCO), cloud adoption has emerged as an ally for enterprises. While Malaysian enterprises have been transitioning towards the cloud before COVID-19, the pandemic acted as a catalyst for the same.
“All companies need to transform digitally to stay relevant and succeed in this new world. While technology and infrastructure are important considerations, changing the people’s mindset can be a huge barrier in driving digital transformation. What the COVID-19 pandemic has done, is that it has forced these changes required upon organizations. We have seen a sudden spike of cloud adoption and this clearly illustrates that organizations are capable of this digital change with the right mindset,” said Dr. Dzahar Mansor, National Technology Officer of Microsoft Malaysia, at a webinar recently hosted by Disruptive Tech ASEAN.
“Cloud platforms are built with scalability and availability in mind – enabling us to meet the increasing demand for cloud. Through Microsoft’s cloud platforms including Azure, Office 365, and Dynamics which provides more than 500 services altogether, we have empowered many businesses to maintain competitiveness and business continuity during this critical period,” he added.
The webinar was joined by Mark Lukie, Technical Lead of Barracuda APAC, and Syed Ahmad, Senior Journalist of Disruptive Tech Asean, discussing strategies and ways for organizations to accelerate cloud adoption safely and securely.
As enterprises move to the cloud, they want to know their data and applications will be compliant with global regulations and policies as well as highly available. From strict physical datacenter security; data encryption at rest, transit and in use; novel uses of machine learning for threat detection; and the use of stringent operational software development lifecycle controls, Azure represents the cutting edge of cloud security and privacy. On this note, both Microsoft and Barracuda have emphasized the importance of a “shared security model”.
Elaborating on this further, Mike Lukie said, “While the cloud provider protects the cloud, it is important for customers to recognize that they are also responsible to protect the data that they put in the cloud. For example, that could be the documents they upload in OneDrive, Teams, or Emails.”
