Delegates will assess the state of the African public service, and propose improvements for transformation initiatives
ZAMBIA, February 15th, 2016: The African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM) and the Republic of Zambia in partnership with Microsoft, will host the 37th Roundtable Conference in Lusaka, Zambia to explore the use of technology for government service delivery. The conference whose theme is “Transforming Public Administration in Africa” will take place from the 29th February to 4th March 2016.
Commenting on the partnership, Microsoft East and Southern Africa Country Manager, Sebuh Haileleul, lauded technology as one of the key pillars of ensuring transparency and accountability by governments, which inherently transforms the course of public policy to citizen centered.
“The power of Information and communication technology (ICT) if well harnessed can enhance the delivery of services to the public in developing countries by improving efficiency, accountability, and transparency, and reducing corruption,” said Haileleul.
Delegates attending the conference will assess and establish the state of the African public service with a view to propose further improvement measures to underpin the transformation initiatives.
AAPAM Secretary General, Mr. George Scott said the conference is part of the organisation’s efforts to strengthen the administrative and management capacities in African service delivery mechanisms.
“The conference will outline the best practices for transforming Africa’s public administration and management through highlighting successful best practices in Africa and elsewhere globally,” said the Secretary General.
The five-day conference will be held at the Mulungushi International Centre and will attract delegates from the public sector including; ministers, politicians, senior government officials, cabinet secretaries, heads of public service, members of the diplomatic corps, young professionals, academia, CSO, practitioners, development partners from different countries and private sector.
Microsoft experts and practitioners will address topics such as;
- Cyber security & Digital Crimes Unit;
- Case Management System;
- Public Safety and National Security;
- Revenue Management System for Local Governments;
- Government Solutions and Cloud;
The conference will include an innovators’ panel led by United nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), AAPAM Innovative Management Awards- focusing on innovative solutions to improve service delivery in Africa, exhibitions by various stakeholders, and excursions.
This is the second time Zambia is hosting this important Conference having first hosted it in December, 2005.
