Sneak a peek at Kinect for Windows v2 hardware

As the debut of Kinect for Windows v2 nears, the Kinect for Windows team revealed Thursday the hardware’s final look. The sensor closely resembles the Kinect for Xbox One, except that it says “Kinect” on the top panel, and the Xbox Nexus — the stylized green “x”— has been changed to a simple, more understated power indicator.

Window shoppers get the Midas touch through Kinect for Windows and Gold Jay Z

The 7-foot, 4K (4,000 pixel) display, the creation of advertising agency kbs+ and interactive design firm Future Colossal, used the Kinect for Windows sensor to detect onlookers. Then it captured a 3D image of the shopper, which emerged from a pool of gold. This golden avatar also followed the window shopper’s movements.

Surgeons save precious time with GestSure imaging using Kinect for Windows

“Just by using your hands in front of the Kinect you can actually control your x-ray without scrubbing out,” says Eric Vallieres, a general thoracic surgeon at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Wash. “I can correlate what’s happening on the patient with what’s happening on the images, so there’s better flow of surgery, and that translates into better care for my patients.”
