Announcing the Picture It! Presidential Poll: One Part Politics, One Part Technology and a Major Departure From Any Presidential Poll in History

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 22, 1996 — One week before Election Day, residents of six major U.S. cities will participate in a most unusual Presidential poll – and walk away with a remarkable commemorative photograph.

On Oct. 29, voters in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C., will picture themselves with their preferred presidential hopeful as part of the Microsoft® Picture It!
™
Presidential Poll. Participants in this interactive event will receive an exclusive campaign button featuring them alongside their candidate of choice.

This innovative campaign allows people to cast their vote using the latest technologies available for home computing, including digital cameras, ink-jet printers and new computers. In addition, it is the public unveiling of a software application from Microsoft Corp.

Voting booths in each city will be equipped with a Kodak digital camera, a personal computer and the latest Hewlett-Packard home color printer, which will generate the buttons. These tools, plus Picture It! personal imaging software for the Windows® 95 operating system, are all that is needed to make this instantaneous pairing of voter and candidate photos possible.

The
“winner”
of the poll will be the candidate with whom most participants chose to appear
“cheek to cheek”
on a campaign button. The results of this unprecedented six-city survey will be tallied by a team of Picture It! pollsters and released to the media that night so campaign strategists will know immediately how constituents really feel about the candidates. Regardless of who wins, the real inauguration will be that of a new era in PC photography technology.

Picture It! is the first software application to let consumers enhance, create and share memories as actual photographs produced by Kodak. It’s fun, easy and affordable, and it requires nothing more than a typical home PC.

Using personal photographs and Picture It!, consumers can create beautiful collages, cards, calendars and more. They can then share with friends and family as actual photographs or as perfect-quality prints from a home color printer. Consumers also can share digital images in slide shows by posting them on Web sites or sending them in a slide show to anyone who has an e-mail address anywhere in the world.

Microsoft Picture It! is scheduled be available nationwide on Election Day, Nov. 5, and will sell for approximately $79.95. Customers can call (800) 426-9400 for store locations in their area where Picture It! is sold.
