.com online travel service was the fastest-growing travel site on the World Wide Web in 1997, as reported by Media Metrix, The PC Meter Company.

“According to our review, Expedia.com showed the most actual growth in visitor traffic of any travel Web site between December 1996 and December 1997,” said Mary Ann Packo, president, Media Metrix, The PC Meter Company.

In related news, Microsoft reported that Expedia.com’s January 1998 sales climbed to $12 million, culminating a year of strong growth.

“This is exciting for Expedia.com. Earlier this year, PC Magazine recognized Expedia.com in its 100 Best Sites of 1997 (Feb. 10, 1998), and Yahoo! Internet Life called Expedia.com the Coolest Site of the Year for 1997 (January 1998 issue), naming Expedia.com one of a dozen five-star sites for the year. Microsoft Expedia.com received many other accolades during 1997, including being selected as the No. 1 e-commerce site by PC Week.
