Microsoft Baseball 3D and Golf 98 Swing Into Action

REDMOND, Wash., July 1, 1998 — The Microsoft Corp. games group today announced the official release of two new sports titles that will give PC enthusiasts realistic and true-to-life game play on the baseball diamond or on the golf course. Hot on the heels of the launch of Microsoft® Windows® 98 operating system, Microsoft Baseball 3D and Microsoft Golf 98 are now available in stores for sports gamers seeking great game play on their PC.

“The release of Baseball 3D and Golf 98 drives home Microsoft’s commitment to offer its customers exceptional sports games for home-computer enthusiasts,”
said Ed Fries, general manager of the games group at Microsoft.
“These are the perfect games for users of Windows 98 and Windows 95 who want to get in and play.”

Excitement From Tee to Green

Realistic game graphics, beautifully rendered courses, accurate ball physics and free Internet game play (connect-time charges may apply) make Microsoft Golf 98 an easy-to-use, true-to-life golf game. Whether players are beginners or experts, they can enjoy 63 holes from four of North America’s most challenging courses, including Teeth of the Dog and the Links at Casa de Campo Resort, both in the Dominican Republic, and Bay Harbor and The Preserve, both along the shores of Lake Michigan.

Golf 98 combines realistic 3-D course graphics, motion-captured animation and superior location-based sounds to offer the complete golfing experience. Real-world customizations empower players to create options such as club distance, strength and even weather to test real-world scenarios on the PC. The game’s ball-flight dynamics allow golf balls to bounce and roll the way players expect them to on real fairways and greens. Players can also compete via modem or LAN, or challenge virtual golfers around the world through the Microsoft Internet Gaming Zone.

Everything but the Hot Dogs

Microsoft Baseball 3D breaks new ground in the PC baseball category. Designed to take full advantage of 3-D acceleration technology, Microsoft Baseball 3D gives fans realistic game play with thrilling on-field action and authentic graphics. Using real-world physics to determine the path of the baseball based on velocity, gravity and ball spin, gamers will enjoy a lifelike baseball experience producing unpredictable game play. All the sights and sounds of Major League Baseball have been captured as players and stadiums are re-created in incredible detail.

Special controller combinations allow extra power on a fastball or a burst of speed on the base paths. Players can feel the impact of a 90-mph pitch against their bat or a slide into home plate with added force-feedback support.

Both titles have an estimated retail price of $54.95 and operate on Windows 98 and Windows 95. Customers can get a $20 rebate ($30 Canadian) by acquiring either Baseball 3D or Golf 98.
