Microsoft Opens Austin, Texas Facility

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 5, 2000 — Microsoft Corp. today announced the opening of its first permanent office facility in Austin, Texas. The office will provide customer service support to local customers of Microsoft as well as facilities for product demonstrations and training. As part of the company’s Houston-based Gulf Coast District, this facility will provide services for several Texas cities, including Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and El Paso.

The 10,000-square-foot facility, located in the Stonebridge office building on North MoPac Expressway, will house 23 Microsoft employees and feature a large customer briefing room, smaller briefing areas, employee offices and a technical lab to allow the company’s customer service representatives and consultants to evaluate software for current projects and test new software and hardware.

“The Austin area is a significant hub for the technology industry and has become a region of tremendous growth for Microsoft,”
said Mohammed Kateeb, general manager for the Microsoft Gulf Coast District.
“In addition to supporting and developing current relationships with Austin-based clients, Microsoft is committed to expanding its presence and increasing services to provide local companies with the technology necessary to run their businesses.”

Microsoft will support corporate customers that operate more than 500 computer stations as well as original equipment manufacturer (OEM) clients such as Dell Computer Corp. The Austin small-business community represents a major growth segment for Microsoft due to the various resources available to start-up companies in the region.

“With the emergence of start-ups in the Austin area, particularly Internet companies, this region is one of the leading markets for Microsoft products and services,”
said John Bunn, area manager for Microsoft.
“Due to this demand, the company expects the office to grow to approximately 50 employees within the next four years.”
