Leading Management Solutions Companies Support Windows 2000 And Windows Management Instrumentation

REDMOND, Wash., Jan. 26, 2000 — Microsoft Corp. today announced that leading management solutions companies BMC Software Inc., BullSoft, Computer Associates International Inc., Compuware Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., NetIQ Corp. and Tivoli Systems Inc. support the Microsoft® Windows® 2000 operating system by providing management agents based on Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).

Windows 2000 allows customers to configure, secure and guarantee services across their networks through its integrated management infrastructure, including the Active Directory TM service, IntelliMirror TM management technologies, Windows Management Instrumentation, Microsoft Management Console (MMC) and Windows Scripting Host (WSH). Specifically, Microsoft WMI provides a consistent, unified, data-driven model that customers can use to manage configuration, status and operational aspects of the Windows 2000 operating system. WMI is Microsoft’s implementation of Web-based enterprise management (WBEM), a set of standards developed by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF) to define a consistent way to access and share management information in an enterprise network. With the other management services provided by Windows 2000, WMI can simplify the task of developing well-integrated management applications and provides customers with scalable, effective enterprise management solutions.

“Manageability was a key design goal of Windows 2000, so we built comprehensive management technologies into the platform to lower customers’ total cost of ownership,”
said Deborah Willingham, vice president of Windows Marketing at Microsoft.
“WMI is an important part of the management infrastructure in Windows 2000, designed to help customers easily maintain their environments, and we are pleased with the number of industry leaders supporting this technology.”
