Leading Systems Integrators Ready for the Availability Of Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server

REDMOND, Wash., March 28, 2001 — Thirteen of the world’s leading systems integrators today announced plans to enable enterprises to rapidly deploy Microsoft® SharePoint™
Portal Server. These SharePoint Portal Server Global Launch Partners — Avanade Inc., Cambridge Management Consulting GmbH, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young LLC, Compaq Computer Corp., Dell Computer Corp., ePresence Inc., Getronics NV, Hewlett-Packard Co., Honeywell Inc., International Computers Ltd. (ICL), Internosis, KSolutions Inc. and Unisys Corp. — will all offer dedicated services and solutions designed to assist customers with their enterprise deployments of SharePoint Portal Server. The news coincides with Microsoft’s announcement today of the release to manufacturing of the enterprise portal solution, which is scheduled to be broadly available later this spring.

SharePoint Portal Server is a flexible solution that can search and index the most important enterprise content sources across an organization and make the information available to anyone in the company via a familiar user interface. The new server combines enterprise-level search functionality developed by Microsoft research, with integrated document management tools and flexible, easily customizable enterprise portal capabilities. Knowledge workers can create their own personal dashboards to view the information they use regularly, such as their Outlook® inbox, calendar and important files made viewable through Web Parts.

Microsoft has completed extensive development and testing efforts for SharePoint Portal Server, including implementing the solution across Microsoft’s company intranet.

“Companies increasingly view corporate portals as highly leveraged investments which enable employees to respond to the needs of their customers by unlocking knowledge stored within the organization and on the Internet,”
said Jeff Teper, general manager of the SharePoint Portal Server business unit at Microsoft.
“These SharePoint Portal Server Global Launch Partners, representing the leading systems integration companies in the industry, have the expertise to field dedicated SharePoint Portal Server consulting practices and provide customers with the resources to rapidly realize the benefits of a corporate portal.”
