Microsoft YouthSpark summer programs include free camps, classes for the kids

Starting June 2, Microsoft will kick off summer break with free YouthSpark Summer Camps at local Microsoft retail stores. Camps include Smart Game Coding and Smart Game Designing where students will learn how to build, publish and bring mobile games to life; Smart Movie Making and Smart Photo Taking offers students a chance to produce and design movies and images.

Microsoft awards academic grants focused on innovative datacenter and energy efficiency

Each year Microsoft issues a request for proposals for the Software Engineering Innovation Foundation (SEIF), to research teams across the world to support academic research in software engineering technologies, tools, practices and teaching methods. New this year was a contest expansion that includes applications geared toward datacenter innovation and energy efficiency.

No more updates or support for Windows XP

If you’re still on Windows XP, you won’t receive any security or non-security updates through Windows Update or Microsoft Update. Support ended for Windows XP April 8. If you continue to use Windows XP without support, your computer will still likely work — but it will become vulnerable to security risks and over time, its performance will be affected.

Employee volunteers connect with community on Yammer Give Day

Yammer’s second Give Day sent more than 150 employee volunteers to nine different San Francisco organizations, where they served and prepped food, tutored students, tended to community gardens and gave essentials to the homeless. They also taught lessons on technology.
