Microsoft Spectrum Observatory shows how wireless airwaves are used

Microsoft released all of the source code March 31 for the Microsoft Spectrum Observatory under an open source software license, a move that will increase opportunity for collaboration with academics, governments and others interested in learning more about how wireless spectrum is used.

12 projects win 2014 Microsoft Research Awards for the Software Engineering Innovations Foundation

The Software Engineering Innovations Foundation (SEIF) has sponsored research into core software engineering challenges, and also funded investigations into software engineering’s applications in mobile and cloud computing and natural user interface(NUI). Some 70 reviewers from across Microsoft conducted an internal review of 129 proposals to select the 12 winning projects of the 2014 Microsoft Research Awards. The recipients will each receive $40,000.

Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 2.0 now available

Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter (MVMC) 2.0, a supported, freely available solution for converting VMware-based virtual machines and virtual disks to Hyper-V-based virtual machines and virtual hard disks, is being released Tuesday, reports the Microsoft Server and Cloud Platform Team.
