Satya Nadella: Microsoft meeting its commitment to environmental sustainability

From Microsoft’s internal carbon fee to its 20-year agreement to buy wind energy in Texas to researching innovative new data center designs, “Our approach helps us prioritize the purchase of renewable energy and drives our investment in alternative energy creation technologies,” Nadella writes. His letter is shared in the newly issued 2014 report of the Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of top U.S. companies.

Microsoft makes commitment to manufacturing and supply chain sustainability

As the Microsoft Green Blog reports, Microsoft’s supply chain for hardware and packaging (Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Information Services) achieved ISO 14001 certification. ISO 14001 is an internationally-recognized framework for organizations to strategically manage and continuously improve their environmental performance.

ZooTracer: Tracking animals and other objects made easy through video

A collaboration between the Computational Ecology and Environmental Sciences (CEES) group at Microsoft Research Cambridge introduced ZooTracer at the end of February as a downloadable, easy to use desktop tool that could dramatically expand the amount and kind of data gathered from the natural world.
