REDMOND, Wash., June 30, 1997 — Microsoft Corp. today announced that it has acquired LinkAge Software Inc., the Toronto-based developer of industry-leading e-mail connectivity and directory synchronization software. As customers migrate to Microsoft®
Exchange Server, LinkAge technology makes it easy to coexist with legacy messaging systems such as IBM OfficeVision (PROFS) on the VM operating system and SNADS-based systems such as IBM OfficeVision on the AS/400 and MVS, Fisher TAO and VerimationMemo.
In addition, LinkAge’s Notes Connector allows Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes users to share e-mail, directories, document links and attachments. This acquisition will build upon Microsoft Exchange’s capability to interoperate with Lotus cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, Novell GroupWise, DEC All-In-One and X.400-based systems.
“We have been working with LinkAge for more than five years and found it committed to delivering best-of-breed solutions for connecting customers’ legacy e-mail environments with Microsoft Exchange Server,” said Rich Tong, vice president of marketing in the personal and business systems group at Microsoft. “The addition of the LinkAge technology and, more important, its outstanding development and services team will help us continue to fulfill our vision of delivering premier messaging and collaboration technologies to our customers.”
Bob Jull, president of LinkAge, said, “We are delighted by the transaction because it represents the ultimate vote of confidence in our technology by Microsoft, and it means our technology will be available to a much broader range of customers.”
LinkAge technology is intended to be integrated into the Microsoft Exchange product line and will be made available by the worldwide network of Microsoft resellers and solution providers. The LinkAge development team will join the Microsoft Exchange Server team at the Redmond, Wash., headquarters of Microsoft, while the consulting and support staff will continue to be based in Toronto. LinkAge customers will be serviced and supported by Microsoft.
