Developers of Electronic Document Management Systems Recognized as Microsoft Industry Solution Awards Finalists

REDMOND, Wash. – Sept. 30, 1998 – Microsoft Corp. today named six finalists for its annual Industry Solution Awards (ISAs). The awards are designed to recognize developers of software applications in the document systems area. Finalists were selected by an independent panel of judges based on their use of the Microsoft® Windows NT Ò Server operating system and the BackOffice Ò family of products.

“These awards recognize the document management and structured workflow software vendors that best use Microsoft technology,”
said Stan Julien, knowledge management group manager for the application developers customer unit at Microsoft.
“The judges have determined that solutions developed by Action Technologies Inc., FileNET Corp., Keyfile Corp., PC DOCS Inc., Software Guaranty Inc. and TMSSequoia offer customers the best features and functionality for the Microsoft platform. Clearly, these companies are technology leaders in the document systems industry.”

A preliminary judging panel of industry experts and analysts selected finalists in two categories: document management and workflow. Finalists are scheduled to demonstrate their solutions at the Knowledge Management Expo in Chicago, Oct. 13-15, 1998. Winners will be selected after judges view their solutions on site and will be announced in a ceremony Oct. 15.

ISA Category Descriptions and Finalists

The Best Document Management Solution award recognizes the best use of technology to support the management of multiformat documents with a rich set of library services, including functions for check-in and check-out, versioning and access control. Document management systems primarily manage documents in their most active stage of processing, when they are first created, reviewed, edited and approved for distribution. Finalists include the following:

  • FileNET: FileNET Montana Teachers’ Retirement Center Solution

  • Keyfile: Keyfile

  • PC DOCS: DOCS Enterprise Suite and DOCSFusion Product Line

The Best Workflow Solution award represents applications with high throughput, high storage requirements and a high degree of task similarity. They typically require a constant connection between the server and the client as data from various storage systems is simultaneously retrieved to help the worker complete the activity (as opposed to store-and-forward messaging connectivity). Imaging is often a component of these solutions. Finalists include the following:

  • Action Technologies: ActionWorks System (Quality Assurance Report Application)

  • Software Guaranty: CALMS

  • TMSSequoia: Oklahoma County Electronic Document Management System (EDMS)
